This was our third exchange and it was one that we all really enjoyed. San Diego is a great city with much to see and do.. Communication was great with Ian and Kelly from the start and their notes and videos about the house were very useful. We met them in London the night before we left and they’re a really nice family who we’d happily recommend as great people to swap with. They’re really easy-going and accommodating, with lots of helpful suggestions about spending time in San Diego. They seemed to have a great time in our place in London and everything was in perfect order when we got back. We also did a car swap with them which worked really well too. The house is in Point Loma, which is a really pleasant residential area about 15 minutes drive from the downtown area of San Diego. Restaurants, shops and supermarkets are all available nearby and you have easy access to some fantastic beaches. The “Trolley” - public tram into downtown San Diego is a few minutes drive away too. The house is really comfortable, spacious and very tastefully decorated. It has a lovely courtyard garden with fresh vegetables, and a pool that our kids adored. The weather was so hot that much of our time at the house was spent outside and the garden furniture makes it very comfortable. It’s perfect for days when you just want to relax by the pool and take it easy. The house is on the flight path for San Diego airport - Ian and Kelly were completely open with us about this - so their is some air traffic. After a couple of days, we got used to this and it didn’t affect the holiday at all. San Diego has some amazing things to see and do and has a great atmosphere. There are plenty of beaches to visit, the Gaslamp Quarter downtown is very lively and fun, plus there are some world famous theme parks: Seaworld, Legoland, San Diego Zoo and (separate) Safari Park. We camped overnight in the Safari Park (Roar and Snore) for our son’s birthday which was really good fun. Watching the Padres baseball team at Petco Park was great fun too. It’s also about a 90-minute drive to the original Disneyland in Anaheim on the southern outskirts of Los Angeles. We did this trip in a day and, though tiring, it was well worth it. From San Diego, we also went on trips to San Francisco (flight) and LA (car) so it’s a really good place to explore wider Southern California and all of it’s many great attractions. It was a brilliant exchange and we’d recommend San Diego highly.
