Leavenworth sits roughly two and a half hours by car from Seattle, a mountain village that traded its failing timber economy for a full Bavarian reinvention back in the 1960s. Its 2026 Oktoberfest just opened ticket sales for three weekends, October 2-3, 9-10, and 16-17, right as the Cascades turn their most vivid fall color of the year.

- A full weekend pass costs $50, with single days at $20 (Friday) and $40 (Saturday); children 12 and under enter free.
- A 62-foot Ferris wheel, Swiss yodelers Oesch’s Die Dritten, and a traditional keg-tapping ceremony headline the festivities.
- The town’s Bavarian look dates to a 1960s reinvention that now draws more than 3 million visitors a year.
A Timber Town’s Bavarian Reinvention
Leavenworth’s alpine look is not an accident of history. Local leaders launched “Project LIFE” in the mid-1960s, repainting nearly every building on Front Street in Bavarian style after the timber industry collapsed. The gamble worked: the village now draws more than 3 million visitors a year, making it one of Washington’s most visited small towns.
Three Weekends, One Steady Ticket Price
Oktoberfest 2026 runs across the Leavenworth Festhalle and Front Street Park on October 2-3, 9-10, and 16-17. A Friday ticket costs $20, Saturday runs $40, and a full weekend pass holds at $50, with children 12 and under admitted free. Reusable wristbands handle tap-to-pay purchases at the beer tents, which pour German imports like Paulaner, Weihenstephaner, Ayinger, Hofbräu, and Spaten alongside the local Leavenworth Festbier.
Yodelers, a Parade, and a 62-Foot Wheel
Swiss yodeling group Oesch’s Die Dritten opens the festival on the first weekend, and the Austrian Freddy Pfister Band closes it on the third, with polka bands and dance groups filling the weekends between. Each Saturday brings the traditional Festzug parade at noon and a keg-tapping ceremony at 2 p.m. Families gather at the Kinderplatz zone, where a 62-foot Ferris wheel, carnival games, and a root beer garden are included with festival admission.
A Scenic Drive Timed to Peak Fall Color
The route from Seattle follows Highway 2 through Stevens Pass, arriving in Leavenworth in about two and a half hours, right as larches and maples along the way reach their most vivid color of the season. That timing turns the drive itself into part of the appeal, long before the first stein arrives at the table.
Skip the Oktoberfest Hotel Rush
Hotel rates near Leavenworth often climb during festival weekends, and rooms close to the Festhalle can sell out months ahead. A home exchange offers a full home, often within walking distance of Front Street, with a kitchen for the mornings after a long festival night and none of the festival-week price spike. For a trip built around three specific weekends, that flexibility matters as much as the beer list.
