Get collaboratively involved with your neighbors!

The sharing economy is growing faster than Facebook, Google and Yahoo combined, so this week we decided to blog about a list of 5 new ways to get involved in the collaborative consumption community with your neighbours. HomeExchange is based on being a peer-to-peer home exchange social network, so we think it interesting to highlight other growing companies who are participating in the sharing economy.

1. Getaround


Getaround is currently available in the USA they have experienced rapid growth in the year since their launch, they now have 200,000 members. Getaround is an online and peer-to-peer carsharing service that allows drivers to rent cars from private car owners, and owners to rent out their cars for payment. Would you believe, every car on Getaround takes 10 cars off the road – sharing cars definitely makes a difference!

2. Dogvacay


When you’re going on vacation, why not send your pet on vacation too? DogVacay allows you to find a dog-sitter in your area, they have over 20,000 trusted and insured animal lovers across the U.S. and Canada ready to love your pet like a member of the family. Daily photo updates means that you’ll know your dog is enjoying their holiday as much as you are!

3. Fon


Are you tired of paying internet charges on your phone? Fon has the answer! Fon members share some of their home WiFi, and in turn get free access to millions of other Fon hotspots worldwide. Fon boasts to have 14,640,744 “fon spots” all around the world and they aim to cover society with free WiFi access. Either buy a fon WiFi router, or join one of their many telco partners. Say goodbye to slow 3G / 4G internet!

4. Skillshare


This sharing economy platform serves to nourish the creative streak in each and every one of us. Skillshare provides access to online classes that you can watch in your own time, and you can also collaborate with their active community on various student projects. Not creativity defined as an artist but creativity defined as a mindset, this is the message they hope to promote to the world!

5. Peerby


Peerby is a website designed to help people to share objects / appliances with neighbouring people, in no time at all! If you are the type of person who doesn’t like to spend a lot of money on things you expect to use only once (or very seldomly) then Peerby is the perfect solution. Enter in your location and what you are looking for (ladder, trailer, BBQ etc) and find someone in close proximity who will loan it to you – extremely efficient!

So, there you go! 5 really interesting sharing economy companies who are all relatively new to market and provide a variety of services to the community. These companies are giving long established and “traditional” companies a run for their money and are starting to take over!
