The Home
Spacious two bedroom, two bath apartment, newly renovated in "complete" complex in secluded beach area. Pool, tennis courts, lagoon and on site management make this a very easy place to vacation. This is the ideal romantic getaway or family retreat as well as a comfortable and appealing environment for the solo vacationer looking for relaxation and reflection. Apartment is over 1, 200 square feet with eclectic tropical feel, tv's and vcr's in three rooms, all new towels and linens. Immaculate and with every comfort and convenience, including books, jigsaw puzzles, cable tv, etc. Each bedroom has its own private bathroom with the master bedroom having a king sized bed and the guest bedroom having two full sized beds. Besides air conditioning, there are ceiling fans and large windows throughout, so if it cools down you can put on the fans, open the windows and hear the crickets and frogs outside. The kitchen, equipped for every culinary need, is a sparkling white and has a washer and dryer alcove adjacent to it. The complex is on a little penisula, so you don't see the Gulf of Mexico, but walk over a wooden footbridge through tropical vegetation to get there. The lagoon beneath the bridge has a resident alligator or two (no danger! ) and lots of visiting birds.

The Neighborhood
Sanibel Island is largely a nature preserve with only 5600 human residents. Visitors from all over the world are attracted to the long beaches, shell collecting, and wide array of bird life (pelicans, roseate spoonbills, ibis, egrets, great blue herons, etc. ) that live on the island. Because it is also the home of nesting turtles, there are no street lights to distract, and everything is very low key. No structure is taller than a palm tree, with most almost hidden by tropical vegetation, and there are no traffic lights. There are 25 miles of walking and biking trails. There are also many boating adventures that one can take on the island. Besides the beauty of nature, there are excellent restaurants on Sanibel Island and neighboring Captiva Island. There are a couple of supermarkets right on the island: one particularly large one with outside gardens featuring beautiful tropical birds. There is also some good shopping for clothes, home items and gifts on the island, as well as one movie theatre and a video store. The causeway that connects the island to the main land brings you right in to Fort Meyers where there's an enormous variety of shops. Further south on Route 41 is the pretty old city of Naples, Florida with its towering Royal Palms, pastel colored old buildings and cultural offerings. Miami is about a 2 hour drive, and there is a boat that one can take to Key West which also takes about 3 hours.

We had had a long queue of exchanges and were not home exchanging for some time, but will definitely consider exchanges now. Prefer to exchange with another vacation home, whether it be a rental property or a second home. Exceptions to that are homes/condos/cottages where the owners are able to do non-simultaneous exchanges in a fairly flexible fashion.
We are open to long week-ends in the areas near New Jersey/New York/Vermont/Massachusetts, Coastal South Carolina, the Florida Keys. Would trade for a week or more in wine country California, Sangre de Cristo mountain range in New Mexico and caribbean islands of Anguilla, St. Barts, Dominica, Dominican Republic, St. Johns, St. Croix and the coastal areas of Mexico such as Cabo San Lucas and especially Tulum. Also open for European exchanges for at least 2 weeks in France, especially Provence, Italy, especially Tuscany, Spain, especially in small villages outside of Pamplona or the coastal area of Spain that is not highly developed(that's a tough one to find!) as well as the islands of Ibiza, Palmas de Majorca.

The People
We are Sylvia and Joe, two early 60's active people. He a photographer, she a writer, both great walkers. We love the beach, but also find a special peace in the mountains. While we do enjoy art and culture, especially music and most especially opera, our preference on vacation is generally to be some where some what secluded surrounded by nature. We have 3 cats (who do not travel with us ever as they live in our permanent residence with us in NJ) We might, however, be willing to take care of yours, but would have a concern about leaving them alone if we went exploring. We are skilled at entertaining ourselves with books, so we don't need a lot of social interaction. We are neat freaks and like our creature comforts which certainly include hot running water, clean accomodations and a nice place to dine when Joe has prepared a fabulous meal. If we do an exchange, you can rest assured that you will find your property exactly as you left it! In addition to this condo for exchange, we have a rustic but extremely comfortable home on Sanibel, Toucan House, which can also be exchanged. Toucan House is a vacation rental property, as is the condo, and is kept to a high standard of cleanliness, comfort and convenience.
