The Home
The house we offer to exchange is a very ancient wood house in a tiny village in the mountains, that was entirely renovated. Its a very comfortable and cozy home, a perfect place to relax, read a book in front of the fireplace in the winter and have coffee in front of the breathtaking view of the mountains or have a bbq outside in the summer.
Description:
Our house has 3 floors in total.
On the 1st floor is the entrance, bathroom and toilet, one bedroom (with a double bed), plus a small adjacent room that our daughters can use as a studio. There one more person can sleep on an extra mattress.
The 2nd is an open floor with a second entrance (from the small terrace outside) into the kitchen, the living room and another adjacent room, where one more person can sleep on the fouton-coutch.
On the last floor there is the master bedroom under the roof, with a small balcony.
The house can host 6 people easily, but is more comfortable for 5, since there is only one bathroom and toilet.

The Neighborhood
The village in which we live is a typical tiny Swiss-Italian farmer’s village: many wooden houses, staples, and nature all around with sheep walking around freely in the summer. It is located in Ticino, the Swiss-Italian canton of Switzerland. Most people speak Italian around here. It’s height is 1’100m above sea level. Ticino is the warmest and sunniest place in Switzerland generally speaking, and is therefore the favorite touristic destination for Swiss people.
Its beauty lies in the fact that it’s untouched and still original in its kind: it’s not at all a touristy destination, and most people who own vacation houses are descendants of local families.
Cavagnago is a great place for hiking, there are many hiking path, for all tastes: the easy ones, a few kilometers to the next village, through the woods, and the more difficult ones, where you can go on hiking for several days, and sleep in refuges.
There are many outdoor activities to do in the summer for those who want to stay in the mountains; if you’re willing to take the car, there are wonderful day trips to do, like going south to the lake (Locarno, Lugano or Como), drive to Italy (1 hours drive to the border) and enjoy and afternoon in the picturesque Como. It’s about 2 hours away from Milan or Zurich.
In the winter, there are skiing possibilities also: there is a small ski station (Carì) on the sunny side of the valley, suitable for younger children and adults who are not experts in skiing and who want to enjoy a sunny afternoon on a beautiful terrace 2’000 meters above sea level. This station is about 45 minutes away by car. There is another station, about 1 hours drive away, that is bigger (Airolo and Andermatt).

June-october: hiking, biking, climbing; all outdoor activities
October: chestnuts, beautiful autumn atmosphere, colored trees.
In the winter
December – March : skiing, walking in the mountains in the snow; possibility of going on an organized tour that takes you walking in snow at nighttime.
April-June: Spring time, blooming of nature. There can still be snow, it’s a very uncertain time, weather-wise.

I (only 53) have been living in Switzerland for 30 years, and I'm the mother of 2 wonderful daughters (30 and 26 years old), who come visit and spend time in the mountains as much as they can. We are very tidy and respectful people, and are looking forward to traveling more together in the years to come.
