Our Home
We're offering two properties - a sophisticated very urban downtown Montreal apartment and a secluded Vermont cottage on 55 acres of conserved forest with a state-listed mountain gorge. So you can have an urban AND rural vacation in the same trip, since it's only a 2.5 hour drive between the 2 properties. Two unique experiences: a downtown place in one of the world's most sophisticated cities, plus a mountain retreat in the stunning landscape of Vermont.
Montreal: a 2-bedroom apartment on the13th floor (hope you're not superstitious!) of one of only three apartment buildings at the very top of the city. The apartment overlooks the entire city - you feel like you're floating. Beside the building is a quiet park we call the "dog park" because it's where folks bring their dogs to run around. Out the front door and 5 minutes away is the famous Mount Royal park, with hiking trails, overlooks of the city, etc. Two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Large salt-water indoor swimming pool and sauna. Our cleaning lady comes in twice a month - she's included.
Vermont: 3 bedrooms, one bath (another toilet downstairs), central air, fireplace and ridiculously beautiful views all sides through large glass doors. You cannot see any neighbour. Stunning perennial garden with stream (owner is a passionate gardener) and 55 acres of managed forest laced with mountain bike trails maintained by the local bike club. Property includes noted Terrill gorge, with 75 foot walls, waterfalls and swimming holes. Seven miles north of Vermont's most famous ski resort, Stowe, with skiing on Vermont's highest mountain and many restaurants, boutiques, etc. 5 minutes (literally!) to two large supermarkets, etc. Just up the road from a new organic local market store, with probably the best selection of wines in Vermont and famous for its meat. Room for dogs to run, since the house is about 1/8 mile from the road. Terrific area hiking, canoeing, tubing on Lamoille River, and so on. Our neighbour makes excellent maple syrup on his 600 acres.
Both properties have wi-fi.

Our Neighborhood
Our Montreal apartment is located in central downtown just up the hill from elegant Sherbrooke St and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. It's at the top of a hill street with a unique dog park at the corner. Walking distance to high end stores and downtown shopping - and the Montreal's best French patisserie is one block away. Five minutes away is Montreal's famous park Mount Royal - the city's largest park on the top of the with hiking and cross-country ski trails, views of the city and in winter, sleigh rides and skating. You couldn't be better placed for comfort, quiet and access to all the city offers. You won't need a car to explore. And of course, you're surrounded by some of the best restaurants on the continent. FYI, Montreal is "FESTIVAL CITY" - with festivals that run through the year: world's largest jazz festival (mostly free, with names like Winston Marsalis, Leonard Cohen, Brubeck, Herbie Hancock, Aretha Franklin, etc), Just for Laughs comedy festival, new cinema festival, assorted dance festivals, African Festival, Francofolies, and the world's only (?) international fireworks competition (free). It's party central here all through the spring, summer and fall.
Our Vermont house is in little-known, but choice Morristown - adjacent to the high-end and fashionable Stowe resort, but away from the pretension. The area is stunning, and if you bike the country roads (bikes included), you'll see why. You can swim in your own swimming hole, or hike/bike the property's managed trail system out onto town land - we often hike for 4/5 hours and never see another person. If you're into plants, we're about a mile from Cady's Falls Nursery, the best perennial/conifer specialist nursery in NE USA, and its owner Don Avery will be happy to give you a tour. This is an excellent site from which to explore Vermont, or drive down to Boston for a day or two.

About Us
We're two - Karen and Michael. Ages (ahem) - won't tell, but we're active hikers and mountain bikers. We have just just just retired from Stonehaven Productions (www.stonehaven.ca), the production firm Michael founded which specializes in corporate communications and television production. Stonehaven's clients include the Canadian government, large corporations and broadcasters. You may have heard of our TV series/film about climate change, narrated by Keanu Reeves and Alanis Morissette, THE GREAT WARMING (www.thegreatwarming.com). Our interests include exploring, hiking, the outdoors, art, history, new cultures, and so on. We tend to prefer more remote areas, although unfamiliar cities are also attractive.
