Our Neighborhood
Big Bear is the premier mountain resort in Southern California. There are all-year activities: skiing, ice-skating, snowboarding and tubing, (normally from November through April), boating and water sports of all kinds, fishing, sandy beach swimming, golfing, hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, bowling, etc. Our house is close to Big Bear Lake and ski slopes. Forests surround our area. Big Bear is a 4-season resort: Snow-capped mountains six months of the year, blossoming fruit trees in Spring, an abundance of home-grown flowers and wildflowers in Summer, Fall colors of maple and oak trees. Beautiful surroundings all year.
There are many organized and interesting tours from the Discovery Center. Hikers can enjoy many scenic sights. There is an excellent Alpine zoo of forest animals and birds. All year round are excellent and relatively inexpensive productions at the Performing Arts Center. There are two movie theaters. Big Bear offers many events: Miners Day, Do-Dah Parade, Cinco de Mayo, vintage cars, etc. There are many restaurants of every type and price range, and unique shops.

Other Information
Exchange does not necessarily have to be simultaneous since Big Bear is our vacation home. We prefer to offer our Big Bear home during ski season for use of your home during the summer.
We are especially interested at this time in a non-simultaneous exchange to Hawaii, the Caribbean or Europe - you stay at our lovely Big Bear home during the winter for snow play and skiing and we stay at your home next summer.

About Us
We, Richard & LeeOna Hostrop, have been educators and book publishers for many years. We have lived and worked abroad in seven countries and on four continents. We like to travel and experience new and familiar areas. We are both graduates of UCLA.
Richard has been a Rotarian for over 20 years. He has served several terms as an International Director in his Palm Springs Rotary Club. LeeOna has been on the board of Friends of the Palm Springs Public Library and the California Retired Teachers Association.
Usually, along with the two of us in the exchange, there would be our daughter and our two well-behaved grandchildren. However, if there is a particularly desirable exchange that would preclude children, we would also accept.
