You can see the mansion building which our home is in, as the large building at the left side of this photo, as well as the 6 acres of lawn between us and the ocean. Also note the two private beaches, with views of the Elizabeth Islands, Martha\'s Vineyard (east) and Cape Cod to the Northeast.
I was lucky enough to catch a fantastic double rainbow after a summer shower in this photograph. Living on water\'s edge, nature is always alive and surprising us with stiking beauty.
So much history is pertinent to this home that you\'ll get mesmerized by the many books written on it which you\'ll find in our library shelves. Charles Lindbergh slept in the guest quarters, for example, among other dignitaries of the time . All historically documented by numerous authors over the years. In this \'porch\' photo, you can see the water in the distance. Since we\'re on a point of land, beaches are 100 yards to the east and also to the south.
Historic, all Italian hand crafted wood in living room\'s massive fireplace which is the former main living room of entire mansion. To provide a sense of scale which the photo can\'t capture, the mantle shelf just above the fireplace opening is over six feet high.
This is the mansion lawn which is all there is between our terrace and the water\'s edge. Six acres of perfectly manicured lawn. No roads, no houses, just nature, the sounds of birds, waves, flowers, grass and views, views, views. Utter tranquility.
You can BREATHE here, you are surrounded by water, grass, trees and beauty. You\\\'re safe, there is no traffic, no noise.... this place heals you in no time from anything that ails you.
Same body of water, same beaches, better views, no crushing and cumbersome, entangling, narrow two lane Cape traffic. In other words, all of what you go to the Cape for. None of the headaches.(Martha\'s Vineyard in lower right of photo. That\'s how close.
The beach is the best place to savor a novel. The 14 foot high, custom built living room shelves are loaded with art, history books and all the classics.
The sun rises and sets in our wrap around solarium, seen at the end of this hall photo. The sunlit room is flanked by five full sets of oversized French doors. Ocean waves can be heard from two directions each evening and the fragrance from the flowers that line the terrace fill the house.
Open kitchen overlooks living room and massive historic fireplace. All appliances recently updated. (2006)
Living room opens to wonderful solarium. Only 200 yards across lawn to beach for sunrise, sea kayaking, sailing or beach combing.
Bike ride the 2 miles along old picturesque stone fenced, tree covered country roads to breakfast in the nearby fishing village. For some local color, try the breakfast and dinner restaurants available there or stop into the local market.
No expense was spared when this was built originally as a single residence. In fact, the mother of the owner was the \"richest woman in the world\" in the 1920\'s and upon her death, her son vowed to spend every cent she made. He brought in the finest wood and stone workers from Europe to build the project, the result is this exquisite and elegant place.
The master bedroom and adjoining large master bath look out to direct open views of the Atlantic Ocean. French doors open to private terraces on two sides of Master bedroom, and three sides of terrace.
The breeze flows through the multiple French doors from one end of the home to the other. Ocean views out all windows.
Five sets of French doors to the wrap around terrace define this room with views of the south and of the east beaches and harbor. European vaulted ceilings and fountain sunup to sunset views.
Spacious master bath also has 13\' ceilings and it\'s own double French doors to the ocean / Martha\'s Vineyard view.
French doors envelope the home on all sides for a summer breeze on any day of your stay. This is a view from the master bedroom to the ocean and Cape Cod.
From our wrap around private terraces, sailboat races, fishing vessels, kayaks, sun ups and the sounds of ocean waves. That\'s it. Nothing else.
Side view (south side) of mansion showing our home on lower level front to back + our solarium\'s many French doors and windows. The wrap around bluestone terrace that surrounds our home is for exclusive use for our unit.
View from the solarium to the private 6 acres of manicured lawn, an unobstructed view of beach and Martha\'s Vineyard across the bay.
The unit is brimming with history which you can read about on premises, including being used for filming a Mass. lottery commercial intended to depict how you\'d live if you won.
Sunlit mansion after a summer rain.
Totally private terrace overlooks ocean, sailboats and kayaks, and Martha\'s Vineyard is in view across water. Carry your morning coffee the 200 yards to the water\'s edge to watch the dramatic sunrises each morning,.. no car needed.
Immediately across the lawn from our home is our heated, olympic sized pool. (no cost to use.) From our terrace, you can see this plus sight the nearby sailboat harbor (our \"south beach\") which you see in the distance in this photo.
Romance is unavoidable here. This is the terrace outside the master bedroom. Sunrise is spectacular, and moonlight across the water, waves crashing... pure romantic bliss.
The artistry of the mansion stuns the senses. Evidence of the European craftsmen\'s work abounds in every detail.
Mansion from rural road, Martha\'s Vineyard and Cape Cod in distance.
Entrance to guest quarters which has it\'s own wrap around bluestone terrace, (w/exclusive use) + view to the south beach and harbor.
Multiple lighted tennis courts. As with the ocean side Olympic sized heated pool and the two private beaches, the use is at no cost to our guests.
Next door \'Nonquit Beach\' adjoins your own long, sand and shell laiden private stretch of beach along Buzzard\'s Bay.
Clubhouse, pool and tennis courts from our rooftop. Nearby harbor, private beach and first tee can all be seen in background. All are walking distance, w/in five minutes.
Dine with a water view from the privacy of your own terrace.
New England is, ... well, New England. Quaint, charming, colorful, fun and often a little quirky. This shop is in the nearby village just \'up the road a piece.\'
Sea kayaking and wind surfing are right out your front door, literally. A sports lover\'s dream. Fresh seafood daily at the local markets.
Neighboring Nantucket Island is just a scenic ferry ride away from the New Bedford harbor,.. 20 min. from your door.
Common sight if you get up early,.. sunrise over the ocean, morning dew on the fragrant flowers and a hot cup of coffee. Just your ordinary day at the beach.
Sun ups over the ocean in the mornings, sunset over the south bay in the evening. Best of both worlds from our dual water view location.
Taken while at dinner in Westport, RI with some fellow home exchangers. Our favorite thing about this concept is the VERY interesting and traveled people we\'ve been so lucky to get to meet.
Welcome to our home! Relax and stay a while.

The Home
Exquisite waterfront mansion living in the heart of New England. Our ocean front home is located within this historic, grand mansion which sits on a sliver of land extending out into the Atlantic ocean in the Cape Cod area of Mass., USA. (Cape Cod is literally the view from our ocean front terrace. Same body of water.) Located on a completely private, gated 232 acres, this one of a kind, 1,800 square foot, luxury residence sits on prime, unspoiled waterfront land between Boston and New York City, and very near to Providence and Newport, Rhode Island. Ocean views also extend entirely uninterrupted to Martha's Vineyard, visible before even stepping foot out of the master bed in each morning. Between you and the ocean, there are no roads, no public traffic to listen to or contend with, no walkways, no distractions, -- only 15 acres of perfectly manicured, lush oceanside private lawn lie between you and your own private beach. If you've visited the cape, you'll know that privacy is a luxury in a beach front stay.
The mansion, once a single, enormous dwelling belonging to Colonel Ned Green in the 1930's, now hosts several high end, luxurious and very unique, individual, private homes. No two are alike. Our particular place, (as we had first choice of all of the units when we bought it 28 years ago at the time of the conversion), is a jaw dropping 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit which happens to be the former owner's primary living quarters, offering the best craftsmanship, the most impeccable details, and the most desirable views of all the mansion and a solarium for plenty of light. Our living quarters were designed specifically for it's multiple ocean front views both east and south of the point of land on which it sits. The unit is very much up to date with all new appliances, wonderful hardwood floors, granite counters, etc., and top of the line linens and outdoor furniture.
FYI: The unit is all ground level for easy, no stair access on all sides.
We have magnificent 14 foot high ceilings in every room with both sun-up and sun set views from it's additional outdoor 1,600 sq. feet of all private wrap-around terrace, made of hand-laid bluestone, and surrounded by a solid granite, three-foot thick garden moat which is laden with well tended greenery from our full time staff of gardeners. Rich oriental carpets blanket the hand-polished hardwood floors inside. The large, bright and airy master bedroom and oversized master bath overlook the ocean's edge as do the tri-sided, wrap around - French doored, European designed, vaulted ceilinged solarium.
I own this property.

The Neighborhood
Located on the mainland side of the Cape Cod waters, (on Buzzard's Bay, yet still just 20 minutes to the Cape Cod Bridge, therefore freeing you from the infamous 'bottleneck' Cape Cod Bridge traffic and the Cape's tourist packed, infamously slow narrow, two lane roads!) You get all the offerings of the Cape, including the same white sand beaches, the kayaking, world class sailing and the views, but you are not held hostage by the downside of Cape living due your liberating location on the mainland side of the waters instead. (Brilliant!) Yet you see the Cape and Martha's Vineyard right from your own private terrace.
Also, from nearby South Dartmouth, you can travel just 20. min. by air and/or approximately 1 hr. by hydrofoil to Martha's Vineyeard (island), or just beyond it to the gorgeous and slower paced island of Nantucket. Tennis, sunbathing, swimming, (pool or ocean), sea kayaking, river canoeing, biking, visiting fishing villages and local vineyards is how you spend time in and around this upscale resort-like, ultra-private environment. Plan some time to just sit and soak it all in, because the setting is truly unlike any other.
Want to venture further? Day trip easily to Boston for an outdoor concert, walk the shops of Newbury Street, visit the famous Italian restaurants of the beloved "North End," see the art galleries or catch a Redsox game. Or dip down to New York City by car or by train for a couple of overnights in the city in order to catch a few Broadway shows! (approx. 4 hours by car). The famous mansion rows of Newport, Rhode Island are only a 45 minute day trip away via an easy access freeway drive, or even better, take the back route; Between us and Newport are a string of charming vineyards w/ tasting rooms, wide open white sand beaches, scenic stone fence lined country roads, quaint, picturesque and unspoiled New England seaside villages. (Fresh seafood goes without saying. The fresh catch lobster and sea scallops are to die for.)
The truly stunning award winning waterfront area of Providence, Rhode Island, home to Brown University and university town energy, is a mere 40 min. scenic drive and is host to summer events, outdoor concerts and not to be missed "Firewater Festivals" all summer long. (Try to catch one under a full moon!)
Or too, it's so beautiful here at the mansion's manicured grounds that even more more likely will just elect to sit and watch the sailboats go buy from the terrace and never leave your summer "home" If you seek R and R, it is an ideal place to read, cook, BBQ, dine outside, stroll the private beaches at sunup and sunset, as we're on a point of land and get both over water. You can swim in the warm summer ocean water or the olympic size heated (April-Oct.) pool, work out, or simply savor being away from it all and let the world go by. Due to the unique design of the property, our place in particular, you can be as social and/or as private as you'd like. A well known and highly regarded chef from the local fishing village caters lunch daily at the pool house.
Travel tip: If flying in, the Providence, Rhode Island International airport is often less expensive and is by far, an easier airport to navigate than is Boston's Logan Airport. Boston is 90 min. / Providence is 45 min. A car rental is advised.

The Dates
ALL dates and ALL locations will be considered.
Though beautifully furnished and fully equipped like a primary home, "the mansion" as it's known as, is a second home for us, so quite often unless we're in residence, an exchange need NOT be simultaneous. Too, please note that because of the relatively high 'monetary' value of the mansion 'package,' (all inclusive: tennis, heated olympic pool, 2 private beaches, free golf if accompanied by an owner), then longer term exhanges in homes without like ammenities - in exchange for a shorter term stay at our beach property would be perfectly acceptable, too! Ask! We are easy going and anything combination of possibilities can be worked out.
Creativity is encouraged. For example, we exchanged with a home the size of a postage stamp once in Pebble Beach, CA and that party stayed one week at the mansion, in exchange, we stayed three weeks at their location as an even "trade." Or, several more seasoned home exchangers we've met have suggested this idea for discrepancy of party sizes: As a party of two, we generally trade our "two person day" for the same number of days with the same size party (2).. and it's an "even exchange." BUT if your party is a 'party of four' for example, then your offer to us to compensate for the larger party size, would be for two times the number of days on your end of the exchange. For example, four people stay for a week at our property, = two people stay for two weeks at your property. That formula works perfectly for many exchangers we're told, so we're trying it this year. Anything is possible! Just ask.
The Destination
High priority for 2010-2011 are regional weekend or week long trades in New England. Last minute planning is acceptable, we're flexible! We'd also love to do some winter ski destination trades, (preferably Colorado, my native state, since it's an easy drive from our winter home in AZ) in exchange for a stay at our beach property during the months the home is open of May-Oct. London is on our list, Beijing, Washington, DC, Buenos Aires, Shanghai, most of the Greek Islands, Argentina, New Zealand, Chicago in spring or fall, Sante Fe, NM, ... (etc.)
NOW ACCEPTING INQUIRES FOR EXCHANGES DURING PERIOD OF MAY-OCTOBER, 2011.
There are only two (2) people in our party, total. NO additional guests will ever be joining us at any time during our stay, this is a guarantee, so the wear and tear as well as the utilities for your property would remain extremely low. We don't cook on home exchanges either, we dine out, making it even easier.
We are early retirees, ages 65 and 54. (A photo is included at the end of the house pictures which are attached to this listing.) Joe is a former bank president and CEO of a chain of banks in New England, and JeanMarie is a recently retired, former national television correspondent, news commentator, investigative journalist and published author. (as well as an avid photographer!)
We love all of our locations, (Scottsdale, AZ and Mass, and our new, soon to be listed home in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico), but now given our tremendous freedom to travel, we wish for adventures beyond our prior boundaries and offer our auxiliary homes for exchange possibilities. We by far prefer 'cultural immersion' rather than being "tourists" as we travel, so we especially love longer term home exchanges such as 30 days or more if our destination is overseas, but again, we're open to all offers so don't hesitate to make one. Chances are your suggestion will be something we've never previously conceived of ourselves.
That said, one-two week and/or 'long weekend' exchanges are also desirable with New York City, Boston, Portland, Maine, the Berkshires, and other New England area properties within driving distance of our own. // We are both avid non-smokers, absurdly neat, amazingly conscientious, highly responsible and will absolutely care for other's properties as we would hope for you to caretake our own.
[Note: We can also make this home available for a formal 'lease' for June, July and/or August each year at a rate of $20,000. per month, w/ a 30 day minimum, in which case, included would be unlimited access to our Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed, ocean side private golf course. No tee times, no fees, no waits, spectacular views, and an impeccably maintained course. A golfer's dream. Use of our new new golf cart would be included too, in the rental fee.]
