Our Home

Exquisite, CAP COD LIFESTYLE at grande 2bdrn/ 2bth home, located within a stunning WATERFRONT MANSION in the heart of New England, just 68 miles south of Boston, MA, 45 min. from Providence International Airport or 60 min. from Boston's Logan airport.

Seeking 21-30 day exchanges for July and/ or August, 2012 inBudapest, Prague, Vienna, or ?? Open to trades in Northern or Eastern Europe.

Our ocean front all ground-level home is located within this historic, grand mansion which sits on a sliver of land extending out into the Atlantic ocean in the Cape Cod area of Mass., USA. (Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard are literally the view from our ocean front terrace. We share the same body of water.)

Located on a completely private, gated 232 acres, this one of a kind, 1,800 square foot, luxury residence with 14 foot ceilings and a grande expansive and private outdoor bluestone terrace sits on prime, unspoiled waterfront land between Boston and New York City, and very near to Providence and Newport, Rhode Island. Ocean views also extend entirely uninterrupted to Martha's Vineyard, visible before even stepping foot out of the master bed in each morning. Between you and the ocean, there are no roads, no public traffic to listen to or contend with, no walkways, no distractions, -- only 15 private acres of perfectly manicured, lush oceanside private lawn lie between you and your own private beach. (If you've visited the Cape, you'll know that privacy is a luxury in a beach front stay, normally you're wrestling with hordes of tourists.)

Historic Building: The mansion was once a single, enormous dwelling belonging to Colonel Ned Green, son of the richest woman in the world at that time, the famous "Hetty Green," Col. Green built this mansion in the late 1920's, which was converted into private homes in 1983 and now hosts several high end, luxurious and very unique, individual, residences. No two are alike.

Our particular place, (as we had first choice of all of the units when we bought it 28 years ago at the time of the conversion), is a jaw dropping, very large, luxurious 2 bedroom, 2 bath + massive solarium unit which happens to be the former owner's primary living room and living quarters, offering the best craftsmanship in the mansion, the most impeccable details in woodwork and granite, and the most desirable views of all the mansion and a solarium for plenty of light dawn to dusk. Our vantage point was designed specifically for it's all day sun exposure, and it's multiple ocean front views both east and south of the point of land on which it sits. The unit is very much up to date with all new appliances, wonderful hardwood floors, granite counters, etc., and top of the line linens and all new outdoor furniture.

FYI: The unit is all ground level for easy, no stair access on all sides, two small steps only to a raised kitchen.

We have magnificent 14 foot high ceilings in every room with both sun-up and sun set views from it's additional outdoor 1,600 sq. feet of all private wrap-around terrace alone, all of it made of hand-laid bluestone, and surrounded by a solid granite, two-foot thick garden flower moat which is laden with well tended greenery from our full time staff of gardeners. Rich oriental carpets blanket the hand-polished hardwood floors inside. The large, bright and airy master bedroom and oversized master bath overlook the ocean's edge as do the tri-sided, wrap around - French doored, European designed, vaulted ceilinged solarium. The entire home is equipped with state of the art air conditioning system if needed, as well.

Our Neighborhood

The neighborhood: We're located on the mainland side of the Cape Cod waters.(Right on Buzzard's Bay, yet still just 30 minutes to the Cape Cod Bridge, therefore freeing you from the infamous 'bottleneck' Cape Cod Bridge traffic and the Cape's tourist packed, infamously slow narrow, two lane roads!)

You get 100% the offerings of the Cape, including the same white sand beaches, the kayaking, world class sailing and the views, BUT you are not held hostage by the downside 'touristy' side of Cape living due your more exclusive location on the mainland side of the waters instead. Yet you literally have unobstructed views of the Cape, the Elizabeth Islands, Cuttyhunk and Martha's Vineyard all right from your own private expansive terrace.

Also, from nearby New Bedford port, (20 min. drive from the mansion), you can travel just 20. min. by air and/or approximately 1 hr. by hydrofoil to the island of Martha's Vineyard, or just beyond it to the slower paced island of Nantucket, -- easy day trips. Note: New Bedford has a grand theater with Broadway productions staged all summer long.

Want to venture further? Day trip the simple 68 miles to Boston (1 hr.) for an outdoor concert, walk the shops of Newbury Street, visit the famous Italian restaurants of the beloved "North End," see the art galleries or catch a Redsox game. Or for the more ambitious, dip down to New York City by car or by train ride for a couple of overnights in the city in order to catch a few Broadway shows. (NYC is approx. 4 hours by car or 5 hr. by train).

The beautiful "mansion rows" of Newport, Rhode Island are only a 45 minute day trip away via an easy access freeway drive, or even better, take the country back lanes through the quaint coastal towns like Westport and Bristol, only a half hour away. This is the perfect base for a New England getaway.

Between us and Newport, RI are a string of charming vineyards w/ tasting rooms, wide open white sand beaches, scenic stone-fence lined country roads, charming picturesque and unspoiled New England seaside villages, antique shops and the notoriously sinful, all natural New England ice cream stands like the well known 'Salvadore's' just outside our gates.

The truly stunning award winning waterfront area of Providence, Rhode Island, home to Brown University, is a mere 40 min. drive and is host to shopping, summer events, outdoor concerts and not to be missed "Firewater Festivals" all summer long. (Try to catch one under a full moon!)

Or too, it's so beautiful here at the mansion's pristinely manicured grounds that even (far) more most likely that you'll prefer to take a morning swim in our heated pool, play a little tennis on our clay courts, wile away the afternoon with a good book, walk along our completely private beaches, then sit back with a glass of wine at sunset, barbecuing fresh fish while watching the sailboats go by from the mansion terrace and never leave your "summer home."

We're on a thin point of land so you literally get sun-up AND sun-set over water. Rare! And you can swim in the surprisingly warm summer ocean in a special area off our south white sand beach. Lastly, due to the unique design of the property, our place in particular, you can be as social and/or also as private as you'd like. A well known and highly regarded chef from the local fishing village caters lunch daily at the pool house.

Travel tip: If flying in, the Providence, Rhode Island International airport, a 40 min. drive, is often easier than Boston's Logan Airport. (70 min.)

Other Information

Please see our photos for a Google image of the literal location. (This site map only suggests "Nonquitt" but our land adjoins Nonquitt, we are on the point of land immediately south of it on the map.) Look for the yellow stick pin on the Google map.

Since we purchased a home in Mexico in 2010, we will actively market this beach home for sale as of summer, 2014. In the meantime, I've prepared a video of the property that we will use at that time. Take a look, it will give you a visual sampler of what would be your stay! (Note: Golf is not included in home exchanges under 30 days.)

Note: We're not set up for infants or toddler age children. Our home can "accommodate" more, but by far, we much prefer exchanges with same size parties of two. Your guests are welcome to visit the mansion and enjoy the private beaches and grounds with you, but please, no overnights.

Thanks!

About Us

View Feedback About My Exchanges

There are only two (2) adults in our party, total. NO additional guests, children or pets will ever be joining us at any time during our stay, this is a guarantee, so the wear and tear as well as the utility costs for your property would remain extremely low. We generally don't cook on home exchanges either, we prefer to dine out, making it even easier.

We are retirees, ages 68 and 57. (A photo is included at the end of the house pictures which are attached to this listing.) Joe is a former bank president and CEO of a chain of banks in New England, a Harvard man so loves New England, and JeanMarie is a retired, former national television correspondent, news commentator, investigative interviewer and published author, a Colorado native, (as well as an avid photographer).

We especially love longer term home exchanges such as 30 days or more if our destination is overseas, and generally 1-2 week long exchanges if farther away state side, or long weekend trades with nearby cities on the New England coast, but again, we're open to all offers so don't hesitate to make one. Chances are your suggestion will be something we've never previously conceived of ourselves.

We are both avid non-smokers, absurdly neat, amazingly conscientious, highly responsible and will absolutely care for other's properties as we would hope for you to caretake our own.

[Note: We can also make this home available for a formal 'lease' for June, July and/or August each year at a rate of $15,000. per month, w/ a 30 day minimum, or $12,500 a month for a two-month stay during high season, May-September) Off season; $6,500.00 a month Oct.-April, in both cases, included would be full and unlimited access to our Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed, ocean side, impeccably maintained private golf course, open year round. No tee times, no fees, no green fees, no waits, spectacular views. A golfer's dream. Use of our new new golf cart would be included too, in the rental fee.]
