Need peace and inspiration to rejuvenate or to live simply? Our1700-sq. foot, three-level home sits privately on the shores of Fox Point Lake, where the sunrises are to live for.
The house was originally built as a cottage, but is fully winterized. The main floor has one bedroom, the bathroom, and a kitchen/dining/living room with a woodstove. These rooms look out onto the lake. Off the living/dining room is a deck on which to enjoy the morning hours with the delivered newspaper and your coffee. The master bedroom is upstairs and has a balcony that also faces the lake. (If you leave the sliding door open during spring and summer nights, you will hear the loons when they return from their winter journey.) The other upstairs room is an office that can be converted into a bedroom. In the basement you will find our media/entertainment room with satellite tv, dvd player, stereo and bookshelves. There is another office in the basement, and also the laundry room. A screened porch off the media room is a lovely space in which to enjoy fly-free nights.
Fox Point Lake is near the seaside village of Hubbards, NS, which is 40-minute drive from Halifax. In the other direction you find Chester, Mahone Bay and Lunenburg, all lovely little villages on Nova Scotia’s South Shore. In the winter, enjoy skating on the lake, skiing on nearby trails and fires on our beach. In the summer, paddle on-- or swim and/or fish in-- the lake, bike on the trails, hike in the surrounding woods or travel five minutes by car to the local ocean beach for a walk on the shores of the beautiful Atlantic. Afterward, sit by our woodstove to read while sipping a favourite local micro brew or wine. Throughout the year, the local lobster and seafood is fresh, the village people are generous, and the neighbours are kind.

The area we live in is quintessential Nova Scotia: the fishing villages, the lakes, and the wildlife are here for all to enjoy. The property sits in the middle of Aspotagan Peninsula, where the weather is usually mild, with occasional winter storms that bring fresh snow for cross country skiing or downhill skiing. We have a trail for cross country skiing out our back door, and the ski hill is an hours drive away. In the winter, you will find residents skating on the lake. In the spring, summer and fall hiking and biking on local trails is a favourite past time, as is lake and ocean fishing. Ocean and lake kayaks can be seen in the water as early as April. Less than a 15 minute drive from our home will take you to the most beautiful seaside yoga studio.
Nova Scotians enjoy simple living that includes a rich cultural heritage. It’s not uncommon to hear local music, take in an art show or watch a play in one weekend—either in Halifax or in one of the nearby villages. If seafood is on your list of favourite foods, you will think you’ve ended up in heaven.
