Our Home
Our lovely family home is situated in a residential area less than a minutes walk from the sea front. Our cottage is around 100yrs old but a recent total refurbishment has resulted in a deceptively spacious and modern home. On the ground floor and to the back of the house, the accommodation consists of a large open-plan kitchen/dining/living area and to the front, two double bedrooms, one of which is furnished with a comfortable sofa bed allowing the room to also be used as an additional living area. There is a large modern bathroom on the ground floor. Originally a bungalow, we have just completed an attractive loft conversion providing an extremely spacious bedroom with its own living area and en -siute bathroom with both bath and shower.
There is a garden to the front and our project for the spring is the landscaping of the back garden!
The seafront is less than a minutes walk away and from there it is a pleasant seafront walk into town in one direction and an even shorter walk to the village of Port Bannatyne in the other direction.
The house is situated in a quiet road, with views over Ardbeg Bowling Green where non members are welcome.

Our Neighborhood
The Isle of Bute is 15 miles by 5 miles and Rothesay is the main town with a population of around 6000.
A unique feature of our island is that it is possible to stand with one foot in the Scottish Highlands and the other in the Central Lowlands!! This is because the goelogical Highland Faultline goes right through the middle of the island!!
The town is well served by a variety of shops, restaurants and pubs. Rothesay also has its own moated castle and stately Mount Stuart House, home of the Marquess of Bute. The island is blessed with a number of sandy beaches, 3 golf courses, all with stunning views, loch and sea fishing and many lovely walks.
You could have a fantastic holiday without ever leaving the island, however if you want to travel further afield there is a regular ferry service every 45mins to the mainland and from there an easy drive to glasgow(45mins) or Edinburgh (1hr 45mins). There is also a ferry at the north of the island which is an ideal starting point for a trip to Loch Lomond (1hr) and the rest of the Scottish Highlands. The last sea-going paddle steamer in the world, The Waverley, calls into Rothesay over the summer months and a sail aboard this famous lady is something not to be missed.
Bute was the venue chosen by Stella McCartney for her wedding and is also the home of Richard Attenborough.

About Us
My husband Gavin and I have taken early retirement and are enjoying having the time to travel. We have done a number of very successful home exchanges and hope to do many more!
We have a shy, but lovely 6yr old cat, Sophie, who lets herself in and out through the cat flap, however we would appreciate you feeding her when you are around.
We would be happy to exchange cars dependent on the availability of insurance cover. Please note UK insurance does not cover drivers from the US.
We may occassionally travel with our grown-up daughter and her friend.
