Our Home
Maison de Poincon is located in Sancerre. This charming medieval town is situated on a hill-top, surrounded by vineyards and overlooking the Loire valley and Western edge of Burgundy. It is a 2 1/2 hour drive from Paris. Sancerre, famous for its delightful wine, is the perfect place for a taste of French country life. The village has ancient winding streets, magnificent views, gabled and turreted architecture, a lively square, fine restaurants, fun cafes and bars, and is in close proximity to a variety of traditional weekly markets.
Our home is 400 years old. It has been renovated with great care to maintain the charm, while providing the comfort of excellent plumbing and electricity. Additionally, we have a telephone, washing machine, fully equipped kitchen, and much listened to Bose Wave radio. There is one bedroom with a double bed, and an air mattress suitable for a child. We have a bathroom with tub and shower and a separate WC.
The main living space is on the second floor. It is an open plan with living room, dining area, kitchen (with a view of our internal garden/courtyard) , and breakfast bar.
The third floor grenier (attic) has recently been made into a second bedroom/living space. It has a queen size bed and second bathroom with stand-up shower. There is also a desk, and with your own laptop, you can access internet. The third floor also boasts beautiful views of the surrounding vineyards. The home is best suited for 4 adults and 2 children. The upstairs attic has an open floor plan that is ideally suited for a family or group of adults who don't mind sharing space.
We are in the center of town, steps from all of Sancerre's attractions.
We consider this house a very special haven, friends who have visited us agree.

Our Neighborhood
Sancerre is a small wine village in the heart of the Loire Valley. The village itself is located atop a hill, providing beautiful views of the surrounding vineyards. Staying in Sancerre is a bit like stepping onto a movie-set complete with 500 year old churches and cobble stone streets. The town square is surrounded by cafes and restaurants. Best yet, it's not terribly touristy, so you wont have to worry about being surrounded by people all the time.

Other Information
The people of Sancerre are wonderful! We have been traveling to the town for nearly 20 years and you will be welcomed with enthusiasm by all of our friends there--it's a small village so it's possible to talk with the locals for recommendations on restaurants etc. Also, should you desire, we can tell friends that you will be arriving and they would happily help you with any questions or problems.
Sancerre is located about 2-2 1/2 hours from Paris. It's an easy drive from the airport on a brand-new highway or a train ride into a nearby village where you can rent a car. There's tons to do in the surrounding area from wine tours, chateaux tours and bike riding to taking a boat tour down the Loire river.
