Our Home

A three minute walk through our Aussie bush track brings you to the world's best beach. Narrawallee is the hidden secret of the famed South Coast region of NSW: a beautiful stretch of the Pacific Ocean. It is safe, pristine, untouched by crowds, surrounded by trees and has wonderful surf breaks - so it's the quintessential beach experience offering something for every member of the family. Our home is colourful, character-filled and with all the mod-cons. Newly-renovated kitchen looks out onto the back entertaining deck. Pass your gourmet meals and cold drinks through the window to each other and soak up the sights and sounds of the Aussie bush reserve which we're surrounded by: kookaburras cackling, galahs, rainbow lorrikeets; majestic gum trees. Take to the back garden for an early morning yoga stretch on our 'observation deck' and really commune with nature or simply settle down to reading your book in the hammock.
Start the day on the front deck which gets the morning sun and watch the birds and listen to the surf roll in.
The master bedroom has its own private deck, a kingsize bed, and built-in wardrobe. It has a funky green feature wall and whitewashed, exposed ceiling beams.
The front bedroom has one bed and a large window looking out onto a lovely native garden of grevilleas, which the wattle birds love! The second of the girls' rooms is a good size, too. There are spare foldaway beds and mattresses which can be brought into any of the rooms.
The main living area is L-shaped and features a terrific slow-combustion fireplace; a dining table right near the kitchen which seats 8 comfortably; separate conversation areas with sofas, cosy chairs and a TV (but shame on you if you come to Australia and watch TV!). Decor-wise, we like lots of colour through the house, so red, ginger, orange feature walls prevail. Original Aboriginal artworks take pride of place on the main living room wall, with lots of other art from local artists (including the homeowners) holding their own, too.
There's a small upright piano, digeridoos, drums, shakers, reflecting the musical life of our family - so please make as much music in the house as you wish.
The downstairs area of the house has an office with internet access and fax machine (and a sofa bed); a double guest room with a laundry/bathroom ensuite and yet another single bedroom which we affectionately call 'the Cave'.
So, there's at least 5 bedrooms and two bathrooms. Take your pick.

Our Neighborhood

Narrawallee Beach has to be seen to be believed. The photo doesn't come close to doing it justice! When the tide is right, there's also a tiny stretch of beach which we call 'the Scramble' (because it's a bit of a scramble down the hill to get to it) which is just big enough to body surf and which is always deserted. It's almost as if it's the Blue House's very own piece of the Pacific. It's directly opposite our home.
According to local real estate lore, we're on one of the best streets in the district. The beauty of our home is that it melds the back-to-nature, beachside experience with all the conveniences of city life at the doorstep, too. There's a small shopping centre with grocery store, liquor store, organic fruit and veg store selling local garden produce, a takeaway fish and chip shop and deli - and that's just a few minutes' walk away. A seven minute drive takes you in to Ulladulla, the picturesque fishing port which has the 24 hour supermarket; cinemas, gym, department stores and all the more commercial 'trappings'. You can hire canoes, surfboards, boats, join a fishing trawler and even go dolphin and whale spotting on one of the cruisers, too. Milton is the local village about 4 minutes' away. It's got a wonderful, arty feel and has attracted a lot of 'Sea Changers' from the big cities - there's a great vibe to the village and Saturday morning browsing through the art and craft stores is stimulating and a nice cultural fix now and again.
Just about everywhere you turn in our area there's a fabulous beach. We've travelled to many beaches in many parts of the world and we are yet to find any which compare with then spectacular South Coast NSW beaches. They have a very special quality indeed. Spend some time here and you'll add years to your lives. That's our promise.
There's a wonderful Aboriginal interpretive trail called 'One track for all' nearby; more National and State parks per square inch than just about any other area of Australia. Feel free to take off in our four-man tent and camp in some of the amazingly beautiful spots before returning back to the creature-comforts of 'The Blue House.' There is an excellent local winery/restaurant and celebrity chef, Rick Stein, has his restaurant at the top of the street at 'Bannister's Lodge.'
Canberra, the nation's capital city is just 2.5 hours' drive; there's a railway station (Bomaderry) 45 minutes' away for trains to Sydney; or Sydney is 3 hours by car. It's about 8 or 9 hours' drive to Melbourne. Batemans' Bay and Nowra are 45 minutes' South and North respectively and provide good 'city' day trips.

We're flexible. About Us

40-somethings Tina and Hamish are former city dwellers who chose a relocation to the South Coast of NSW for quality-of-life reasons and as a place to bring up Lily (15) and Grace (11). We've not regretted it for a moment. Hamish is an internationally-touring musician. Tina is a marketing consultant advising music organisations. We love the outdoors; we're pretty health conscious and we hope our home is infused with the the loving and adventurous spirit we share in our family. Hamish is the Nature Man/'let's go camping in the wilderness' type while Tina would take the 5 star resort option - so our home is a nice mix of both those influences!
Truffle is our little white Maltese dog and a most Zen small dog. No yapping, just a calm and loving presence. He can stay with you if you'll have him, or we'll make other arrangements, no problem.
