Our Home

We live in Sausalito’s unique waterfront community within the vibrant San Francisco urban area. Our 2000 square foot, two-story home has wonderful views of mountains, bay, marinas, and sea birds.

Our house is nicely and comfortably furnished, with a fully-equipped, wrap-around kitchen with granite counters, 3 decks with great views, and is light and airy with lots of windows and skylights.

Downstairs, we have two bedrooms and two full bathrooms; the master bathroom is en suite, has double sinks and a combined large marble shower and Jacuzzi which can fit 2 snugly. One bedroom also serves as a study. On the top floor there are a sun-filled living room, a modern kitchen, and a breakfast/music room in a full-floor open design with 12' ceilings.

Our home is has paintings, photographs, and artifacts from our travels in the US, Europe, Africa, South and Central America. We ask that you take care of them as you would your own things.

This home also has many amenities: hardwood floors, gas fireplace (SF summer nights tend to be cool), multiple open doors and windows (there is no humidity, so there are no mosquitoes), washer/dryer, Jacuzzi tub, Toto Washlet toilet seats, adjustable TempurPedic king bed, piano, 2 Bose wave radio/CD players, 3 TVs, wired and wireless internet access, DirecTV with premium channel, DVD player, VCR, TiVo, color copier/printer/fax and speaker phone.

We are a five minute walk from Bay-area public transportation and ferries. Our home comes with free parking and, if you have a good driving record, we can also include a car as part of the swap.

Please note that our home is non-smoking and that we cannot accept pets -- sorry.

Our Neighborhood

Our floating home is located 5 minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge, which connects Sausalito/Marin County to San Francisco.

San Francisco is a world-class city built on the edge of San Francisco Bay and sprawling across hills and valleys in a colorful mosaic of neighborhoods, cultures, and vistas. If you have not been here before, you'll want to explore the typical tourist sights -- Fisherman's Wharf, the Embarcadero and renovated Ferry Terminal with its shops and farmers market, North Beach, Telegraph Hill, Chinatown, Union Square, Golden Gate Park, Alcatraz, and more. To get a feel for the real city, you should also enjoy its distinct neighborhoods -- Pacific and Presidio Heights, the Richmond and Sunset Districts, the Mission, Noe Valley and the Castro, Japantown, Sutro Heights, the Presidio, and much more. We have tour books that you can use in planning your visit. There are many renowned museums, parks, beaches, cultural venues (music, film, and theater), great restaurants (especially seafood and ethnic venues) plus sporting events (e.g., the SF Giants play in the city).

If you feel like staying at home, Sausalito is a charming, small, and quiet town with art galleries, restaurants, shops, parks, marinas, spectacular Bay views, gourmet groceries, access to great book stores, art movie theatres, summer music and art festivals, farmers markets, health food stores, health clubs and spas.

Despite proximity to SF, our location provides easy access to hiking, biking, jogging and walking paths, and other outdoor activities, as well as beaches and redwood forests. You can also enjoy the wine country of Napa and Sonoma, Stinson Beach, Half Moon Bay, Santa Cruz, Monterrey, the East Bay (Berkeley/Oakland) and much more within an hour or so of our home.

The Sausalito floating home community is a uniquely relaxing and beautiful setting for a vacation only minutes from all of San Francisco’s neighborhoods, parks, cultural activities and sights.

Check out our famous floating home community at www.floatinghomes.org (look at the virtual tours to see images of many of our neighbors).

Our Destinations

Otherwise booked for the year, we are seeking a one week summer trip (June or July) to a southern CA beach community with our daughter, her partner & 2 children -- a 5 year old and a 3 1/2 year old. They are well behaved, good kids who are carefully supervised. We've taken them on past exchanges and never had a problem. Orange County is preferred. If a non-simultaneous exchange works best for you, we can almost always work that out given our two homes.

We like to go to Hawaii during the winter and are very flexible on dates. We'd be interested in a Hawaii exchange for next winter.

We are flexible and can travel almost anytime, anywhere. We have a second home in Greenwich Village in New York City, so we can do non-simultaneous exchanges for SF or NY. See Listing 168659.

About Us

We are a retired professional couple open to traveling to most any interesting location. Prior to moving to SF in 2000, we spent most of our professional lives in Washington, DC but are native New Yorkers. We have a second home in Manhattan which makes non-simultaneous exchanges relatively easy to arrange.

Jim worked for many years as a health care researcher in his own business and as part of a research institute. Eve worked for 20 years in the US Senate and managed several statewide political campaigns. After leaving the Senate she's consulted abroad for USAID, lectured and been an adjunct professor of political science.

We have a 40 year old daughter who resides in Oakland and she and her family, including 2 preschoolers, occasionally visit with us when we do home exchanges.

Our spacious studio apartment in a charming residential neighborhood --Greenwich Village (the West Village) -- in Manhattan also available for exchange. There are virtually no hotels or commercial accommodations available in this part of the City. This makes a non-simultaneous exchange relatively easy to arrange. See Listing 168659.
