  • Oxford, England:

Oxford is a beautiful, classical old city - you can spend hours just exploring up side allies, going inside the colleges, exploring their gardens, and with plenty of cafes/ restaurants. It is well endowed with museums, theatre and has some great live music venues - classical, jazz & contemporary. In the summer there are a number of open-air theatres, often in the college grounds.
It is on the river and there are riverside walks, and pubs close by our house.

Central London is 45 miles. There is a fast train, but easier from our side of town is a frequent, rapid (1 ¼ hours) and cheap bus service into Marble Arch and Victoria. It runs late at night so you can spend the day in town, go to the theatre and then hop on the bus back. Alternatively you might think of staying in a hotel one night in central town.
This compares with a place in London, not immediately central, which can take 40 minutes to get into central town too.
Depending on your taste, a base in Oxford could be an ideal alternative.

Nearby are beautiful Cotswold villages, and Stratford is about 40 miles away. Oxford is a good base to go beyond that further North, into Wales or the South West.

Our house:

We live in a friendly residential area half a mile from the Magdalen Bridge. It backs onto playing fields, a nature reserve and beyond that, the river. Our house is double-fronted, Victorian - but we have opened it up in the back, allowing light to flood in from our courtyard garden. It is filled with paintings and sculptures - some of them mine. There is a large through sitting room and an architect -designed kitchen with Aga style cooker.
There are 3 bedrooms; 2 bathrooms, 1 ensuite; and one attic playroom - with table tennis, pool, darts and a punch-bag. It has a sofa-bed in it.

About us:

I am a practising psychoanalyst. I have two teenage kids, Katie, aged 17, and Max, age 16. We would take good care of your place.
