Our Home

We live in a large, recently renovated and fully equipped 1750 sq. ft. apartment centrally located in New York City. Our apartment is really two apartments combined - a two-bedroom and a studio. Our daughters are away from home most of the time, and we enjoy having guests stay in their area while we are at home.

We have a lot of room for guests. Guests stay in our studio apartment (650 Sq. Ft.), which includes one daughter's room with a queen-sized bed and our older daughter's room with a twin bed and a sofa, and alcove in-between with a chair and computer (and room for an inflatable mattress). This guest area also has its own bathroom and a huge walk-in closet, and a TV, DVD, wi-fi. Guests are also welcome to share our living room, dining room, kitchen, and cheerful balcony, and another bathroom. At the other end of the apartment are our master bedroom with bath and our home office (which is not used by our guests). There is a gym and children's playroom in the building, and a private park and playground in the back. There are doormen on duty at all times, and we have friendly neighbors who would help you find resources in the neighborhood if we are away from home.

Our Neighborhood

We're on the West Side of Manhattan in the west 60's, very close to Lincoln Center. We are just a few blocks from Central Park (with the zoo and the carousel nearby) and Riverside Park, within walking distance of thousands of restaurants and shops and many theaters, museums and other cultural attractions.

We have two bus lines in front of our home, and we are a 5-10 minute walk from the 7th Avenue subway lines (the 1, 2, and 3 train) and many other buses.

There is a private park and playground behind our high-rise building, and we look out on trees and the park.

I am allergic to cats and cigarette smoke. We'd like to confirm that there are no cats living in your home. Also, both our daughters are allergic to dogs, so on trips when they accompany us, we cannot stay at a home with dogs either. We cannot have pets or smoking in ours.

Also, please let us know if you are interested in home hospitality or if you only want an exchange. We enjoy having guests and getting to know you, though we'd also respect your privacy.

About Us

Harriet and Ken are in our sixties. We are both law school graduates; Harriet works from home as a full-time volunteer president of Kulanu, Inc. (www.kulanu.org), an international nonprofit group. Ken works half-time as a tax attorney in a large bank. Our two daughters are 26 and 32, and they are living on their own in Los Angeles and Boston. We also have a housekeeper who comes two days a week, and Harriet's nonprofit group has a young associate who works in the home office Mondays, Wednesday and Thursdays even during home exchanges, from about 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. She often has one or two volunteers assisting her on those three days. All these people are welcoming to guests and we'll all be glad to advise you on things to do in the area.

We have already had many wonderful home exchanges, and look forward to more. We especially enjoy home hospitality - where you stay with us while we're at home, and then we have the option of coming to visit you when you are at home (or using your second home). Our schedule is much more flexible for home hospitality than for simultaneous exchanges. We have recently begun exploring 3-way exchanges, where we stay with you, you stay with a third party, and the third party stays with us.
