Our Home

Our home is a two year old, very spacious 4 bedroom family home, situated in a lovely small village in Somerset, with views of the Mendip Hills. We are minutes from Cheddar Gorge, the historic market town of Axbridge, and only 15 minutes from the seaside towns of Weston Super Mare and Burnham on Sea.

Our house has stone steps leading to an oak porch and the front door. Off the large and light hallway there is a large sitting room with a wood burning stove/fireplace, TV, DVD (we have lots of DVDs) and Wii. There are sash windows to the front and patio doors on to the deck at the rear. The separate dining room has sash windows to the front and is furnished with French cherry wood table, chairs and buffet. There is also a very good Schmimmel upright piano. The big dining kitchen has bi-fold doors across the full width of the house, so you can open up the full width of the room to the garden. There are also french windows leading to the deck at the side. The kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances (2 ovens, electric hob, large American style fridge/freezer and dishwasher), and there's a microwave too. For casual dining we have a large extending wooden table, with four chairs and a long bench - easily seating 8 people in total. There's also a TV in the kitchen. The utility and laundry room is next to the kitchen and has washer and dryer. There is also a WC downstairs.

Upstairs we have 4 bedrooms, of which 3 contain queen/double beds and the fourth has a double sofa bed. The main bedroom has French cherry wood furniture, including a sleigh bed. There is an en-suite shower room with WC and hand basin. The main bathroom has a bath, separate shower, WC and hand basin. Both showers are "power showers". We also have a study which contains our 2 computers, which have Broadband internet access and wireless access if you bring your own laptop etc.

At the front of our home we have a long gravel driveway leading to a garage. At the back we have a decked area, with wooden table and chairs and views out across the fields towards the village church. There are large lawned areas at the front and rear of the house. The rear garden is particularly private. There are alpacas and geese in the paddock behind the house - but you don't need to feed them as they don't belong to us! They are not noisy or bothersome in any way and we enjoy watching them. We are not overlooked by other houses.

Our Neighborhood

We live in the county of Somerset in the south west of England in a rural village called Badgworth, near the lovely market towns of Axbridge and Wedmore. We are also close to many interesting places, such as the beautiful city of Wells (25 minute drive), Cheddar Gorge (10 minutes drive), the Mendip Hills (lovely walks - 10 minutes), Weston Super Mare (the seaside, 15 minutes), Burnham on Sea (seaside 10 minutes), the Chew Valley (20 minutes), Glastonbury (30 minutes) Bath (40 minutes), Bristol (40 minutes), Exeter (50 minutes).

Our house is in a peaceful village setting, but the area is very accessible to many interesting places.
There are restaurants in Weston Super Mare and a lovely pub in Wedmore (all very accessible). There are excellent shops, restaurants, galleries and museums in Bristol and Bath.

We are just 10 minutes from the freeway/motorway (M5 junction 21), yet in a rural area surrounded by farmland, with views to the beautiful Mendip hills, which contain some great hiking trails and afford excellent views across Somerset, north Devon and over the Bristol Channel into Wales.

Bristol airport is a 15 minute drive to the north, but we are not on the flightpath and never hear airplane noise. London Heathrow airport is approximately 2 hours 30 minutes by car.

Slighly further afield, you could visit Cardiff (1 hour), the north Devon coast (1 hour), the South Devon coast (1 hour 30), Salisbury with it's wonderful cathedral (1 hour 30) and Stonehenge (1 hour 20).
You could take the train to London from Weston Super Mare (the rail journey takes under 2 hours).

There are 2 links golf courses (Burnham & Berrow and Weston Super Mare) within a 15 mile drive and the famous Celtic Manor is within a 1 hour drive.

About Us

View Feedback About My Exchanges

We are Ian 58 and Jacqueline 45 years old. We work for the UK Government and have recently relocated to Somerset.

We enjoy travel and have done several succesful exchanges in the past from our previous house in Worcestershire (USA 7 times, Canada, France and Iceland). We've also worked abroad in New Zealand, Russia and Egypt. We're interested in history and music and play the piano and clarinet. We enjoy good food and wine and try to visit France and Italy at least twice a year to enjoy the gastronomic experiences. We're both keen cross country skiers, and travel regularly to the USA and Norway to pursue our hobby.

We would prefer exchanges that do not involve looking after dogs, but are happy to care for cats (we've done this on two previous exchanges and both cats are still alive and well!).

We normally travel alone, but sometimes Jacqueline's mum might join us (with your permission of course!).

We love our home and keep it very clean and tidy. We will of course do the same in your home.
