Built for us in 2002 in the traditional log house (madriers) technique, our authentic Swiss chalet is our second home. Nestling on a sunny slope outside the historic mountain village of Gryon, it is situated in a quiet area at the very end of a private driveway, which gives access to a few chalets surrounded by meadows (where cows graze right under your eyes) and a small forest.
Our chalet has a spacious and luminous open-plan living/dining area (47 m2 or 500 ft2) , with a fully fitted kitchen and large picture windows that open on a magnificent mountain landscape. It comfortably accomodates up to six persons in its three bedrooms. On the south side, you will find the master bedroom (17 m2 or 180 ft2), fitted with a queen-size bed (i.e. a double bed) and an ensuite toilet with sink, and another room (17 m2 or 180 ft2), which opens on the same south-facing balcony as the master bedroom and is fitted with two single beds. On the north side, you will find a smaller room (10 m2 or 107 ft2), that's fitted with a pullout bed (i.e. two single beds). There is a shower room on the ground floor and a bathroom on the first floor. Click on "more pictures" to see floorplans.
Although it is a second home, our chalet is equipped like a first home and has all necessary amenities and appliances (central heating, refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, electric oven, ceramic/induction cooktop, espresso coffee machine, "fondue" and "raclette" devices, washer, dryer, vacuum cleaner, steam iron, hair-drier, Stereo/Hi-fi with CD and MD player, DVD/Bluray Disc Player with large screen and choice of DVDs, etc.).
A large covered terrace next to the kitchen overlooks a spacious lawn ground, ideal for children's playing or lazing in the sun. Kids will find plenty of toys and games, indoor and outdoor.
We have a car-port for two cars with a ski-room at the back.
The holiday mountain resort of Villars-Gryon (http: //www. villarsgryon. ch/e/home; or http: //www. skisolutions. com, click on "resorts", then "Switzerland", and "Villars"), among the oldest ski resorts in Europe, is located on a natural south facing balcony at an elevation of 1'200 m or 3'900 ft, with a breathtaking panorama extending from the Lake of Geneva to the Mont Blanc. The resort comprises the fashionable station of Villars, with its night-life and shopping opportunities, and the peaceful, charming 800 years old village of Gryon.
Winter sports fanatics will be delighted with more than 120 km of alpine ski trails (children under 9 years of age ski free! ) served by very modern and efficicent able cars and chairlifts (little or no waiting), 50 km of nordic ski trails, 35 km of cleared winter footpaths, 8 marked snowshoe trips with a total of 34 km, sled runs, etc. (http: //www. tele-villars-gryon. ch) . Villars also offers a large indoor swimming pool, an ice skating rink and a bowling alley, all open in summer as well. The cable car departure for the ski pistes, situated at Barboleuse, can be reached in 4 minutes from the chalet by car (plenty of free parking places) or in 5-10 minutes on foot, uphill through a small forest or meadows. Shops are 4 minutes away from the chalet by car, or 15 minutes on foot.
In summer, the resort offers more than 300 km of marked footpaths and 150 km of marked mountain bike trails in magical scenery and unspoilt natural beauty, as well as an 18-hole golf course in beautiful settings, facing the Alps and the Mont-Blanc, and several marvellously situated tennis courts. Countless mountain huts and restaurants provide a welcoming and authentic atmosphere and cuisine. For wellness lovers, the great new spa center of Lavey-les-Bains can be reached in only 30 minutes by car.
Villars-Gryon is 115 km away from Geneva Airport (1½ hours by car, 2½ hours by train) . The Lake of Geneva with its extensive touristical possibilities (http: //www. lake-geneva-region. ch) is only ½ hour away from the chalet.
We have already set all our exchanges until the summer of 2013.
That said, we love discovering new places and we are open to any destination at any date after the summer of 2013.
The exchange can be simultaneous or non simultaneous. Being a second home, our chalet is available almost throughout the year (except at Christmas/New Year).
