Our Home

1882 Victorian Flat in the heart of San Francisco, within walking distance of the famous "gold painted fire hydrant" that stopped the 1906 fire, and preserved our neighborhood to become the Liberty Hill Historic District. Classic San Francisco living in the City's sunniest neighborhood. it's a half block to Valencia Street.

My home offers 11 foot ceilings, tall bay windows, marble fireplace, wainscot paneling, brass chandeliers, a sun deck and back garden, PLUS DSL high speed internet connection and network wiring for computer connection in various rooms. TV, CD, DVD, stereo, cable TV, and a modern kitchen.

The modern kitchen has a dishwasher, microwave, gas stove-oven, large fridge-freezer, mixers, utensils, everything including a pop corn maker. It has a 6 foot long, handmade, Italian monks' table for breakfasts, etc. Bathroom is spacious and includes a washer-dryer.

In addition to the master bedroom, the living room sofa opens as a double bed. We have a formal paneled dining room with table and chairs for 8. We have a 2004 stick shift Miata convertible with garage available. There's a small deck off the bedroom and the back garden available for enjoying sunshine and the open air.

Our building neighbors are friendly, have keys if you happen to get locked out, and can give you lots of neighborhood recommendations.

We don't have pets and only a few house plants. We are non-smokers.

We prefer to trade autos, and have a 2-seater Mazda Miata in 24 hr gated garage 6 doors down the street, for your trips to the wine country, the coast or wherever.

Our Neighborhood

This is the Liberty Hill Historic District of San Francisco. It is the section of San Francisco blessed with the sunniest micro-climate. We are 100 feet from the Valencia Street restaurant corridor with it's Thursday afternoon farmer's market. Valencia Street is blessed with an array of theaters, including the award winning Marsh Theater a block away, and restaurants, ranging from French, Chinese, Sushi, Vietnamese, Middle Eastern, Spanish Tapas, Belgian, to Mexican. There are Yuppie espresso bars, old line Irish bars, bookstores, art galleries, antique shops, music venues and other "off Broadway" theaters.

Walk another block and you are on Mission Street, the heart of Latin American San Francisco. The are many fresh vegetable shops and Lucca's, the best Italian deli in town (and don't forget the Bartlett & 22nd Street farmer's market). It is about five blocks to the public library and Walgreen's.

Both freeways have entrances close by, and there are two BART subway stops in the neighborhood. It is 10 minutes by subway to world class San Francisco museums and department stores. A number of San Francisco buses serve the area. There is a city run parking garage on the next block for visitors, altho we park out exchange car in a private garage down the street.

San Francisco is the ideal starting point for quick trips to coastline villages, Silicon Valley, Berkeley, the wine country, the Giant Redwoods, or longer excursions to Lake Tahoe skiing, Yosemite rock climbing, gold country, etc.

Our Dates

I can leave after July 20th, and intend to stay away from San Francisco til the second week in October. I'm only looking for a trade in Boston from July 20th to Oct 5.

If you have a shorter time available (minimum 3-4 weeks), contact me, as I've done multiple trades in the past & it worked well.

Open to any dates

Our Destinations

I'm interested in Boston, South Shore. Hull, Cohasset and Hingham are preferred, but I'm happy to hear from people in Boston central locations like Cambridge, Brookline, Back Bay, North End, Beacon Hill - just write me with your availability (min 3 weeks)! I'm coming alone, but am hoping to find a place that will welcome my daughter and well-behaved 11 year old to stay over from time-to-time, so I'm counting the number in my exchange as 3.

About Us

Hi, my name is Shari and I'm a non-fiction author and journalist writing magazine articles and books on women, personal finance and travel. I've lived in Europe and speak Italian and a little Spanish & French. I've done numerous exchanges, and had wonderful experiences. I'm interested in exchanging for a home (or perhaps several) in the Boston area, as I have a daughter and grandson I want to visit in Hull, MA (close to Boston).
