Our Home

Our home is a beautiful craftsman style house with wrap-around porch overlooking lovely gardens and stream in a quiet, upscale community in the mountains of North Carolina. We are just a few minutes drive from the quaint and charming town of Asheville nestled near to the famous Blue Ridge Parkway.

The ground floor has a cozy living room with stone fireplace, and a separate dining room with a large dining table. The eat-in kitchen opens to the living room and is fully equipped. There is a laptop with wireless connection for your use, and a utility room with laundry facilities. .

The master bedroom on the ground floor has a very comfortable king sized bed and modern en-suite bathroom. This has double sinks, a large walk in shower and seperate soaking tub. There is also a private deck with lounging chairs off of the master bedroom

There are two more bedrooms upstairs, both with en-suite bathrooms. One bedroom has a king bed which can be made up into twin beds, while the other bedroom is a large light filled room with a queen sized bed. There is also the office which has a queen sized futon for extra guests, and an area with a piano and a quiet reading nook.

The pretty garden is filled with flowering shrubs, perennial flowerbeds, and a small stream to play in.There are a few fruit trees and a large kitchen garden from which you can help yourself to anything ready to pick. There are several peaceful sitting areas in the garden and on the porch, which are perfect places to relax with a glass of wine, listen to the stream and enjoy the mountain scenery.

We are willing to negotiate the use of one of our cars as part of any home exchange.

Our Neighborhood

Asheville is a wonderfully charming town, set in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. It has been a tourist destination since the 1880's and is well known for it's glorious climate, lovely scenery, and vibrant downtown filled with excellent restaurants and bars. There is a lively art and music scene, as well as many small independent shops and at least 30 art galleries. There is great hiking and biking nearby, not to mention the fishing, river rafting, horse-back riding, rock climbing and zip lines for those wanting more adventure.

The Blue Ridge Parkway with its spectacular drives and long range mountain views is just outside of town, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is about 1 hour’s drive away. The famous Biltmore Estate is just on the edge of town, and there are about 20 or more amazing golf courses within an hour’s drive of our front door.

Asheville is known for being one of the top 10 places to live and retire to in the US, and was recently listed in the top 10 Food and Wine destinations in the US, not forgetting the 9 local microbreweries as well. There's something special about this town, and the world is just beginning to discover it. Asheville is the ultimate playground, with a wide diversity of outdoor adventure and the ideal destination for an active getaway, complimented by great food, music and art.

About Us

View Feedback About My Exchanges

We are Mike (67 and from the UK) and Claudette (56 and from Trinidad) and have lived in Asheville for the last 6 years and love it. Mike worked in the oil industry for 30 years, before changing careers and moving into the IT business. Claudette was a stay at home mum and once the kids grew up and left home, we moved to Asheville from Texas to enjoy the mountains, the wonderful climate, and all of the pleasures of this thriving town. We have 3 grown children who may sometimes accompany us on our home exchanges, and 2 golden retriever dogs. Much as we love them, the dogs will however go to "summer camp" when we travel.
We love to garden, hike with the dogs, and now that Mike is retired, he is enjoying playing lots of golf again. Claudette sings with a local women's chorus and does volunteer work in the community.
We love to travel and have done so quite extensively over the years both with Mike's job and for pleasure. We are respectful of other people's property and will look after your home as if it were our own. We have recently completed our fourth very sucessful exchange, and this is definitly the way to travel and see the world from a "local's" perspective. We look forward to many more such adventures.
