Our Neighborhood

The delightful village of Angles is just a two-minute drive away. Angles is a typical French village with interesting shops to explore and a good choice of restaurants, cafés and bars. At the heart of the village is a 12th-century Plantagenet-style church.

Angles has its own Office de Tourisme, as well as a post office, banks, a hairdresser, a beauty salon, an aromatherapist, a pharmacy, cafés/bars and restaurants. There are also two supermarkets, butchers, a fishmonger and a fruit & vegetable shop.

In your villa, you will find reviews of over 20 restaurants in the surrounding area, along with detailed information about sporting & leisure activities nearby, local events and plenty of ideas for entertaining the children.

La-Tranche-sur-Mer (10 minutes): this seaside resort has 13 kilometres of sandy beaches and a large sea water reservoir, which is ideal for elementary sailing courses! Equipment and courses are also available for windsurfing, kite surfing, surfboarding, bodyboarding, longboard and skimboard. La-Tranche-sur-Mer has over 18 kilometres of cycle tracks - a relaxing way to explore both the town and the surrounding countryside away from the bustle of the main roads. From the town’s pier, there are boat trips to nearby La Rochelle, Fort Boyard, Ile-de-RĂ© and Ile-d’Aix.

L’Aiguillon-sur-Mer (15 minutes): the authenticity of this small fishing port has been beautifully preserved. During the summer months, visitors can buy fresh fish and other local produce from the town’s market stalls, or sample L’Aiguillon-sur-Mer’s famous oysters and mussels.

The villas are so close to the village, your fresh baguette and croissants for breakfast are only a short stroll away each morning - and you have a choice of several restaurants in Angles for lunch or supper, all within walking distance.

La-GriĂšre-Plage (15 minutes): perfect for those who prefer quieter beaches but still like their creature comforts! The beach is near the resort of La-Tranche-sur-Mer, but even in the height of summer, it offers superb sand with a less frenetic atmosphere. Local cafĂ©s do a roaring trade in “Brioches VendĂ©ennes”, a mouth-watering cross between bread and cake.

L’Aiguillon-sur-Mer is the VendĂ©e’s southernmost seaside resort. Situated on the River Lay estuary, the town borders both the Charente-Maritime and the Marais Poitevin. Fishing and water sports are on offer at L’Aiguillon-sur-Mer - and three large seawater pools next to the beach are great for children who want to swim and play in the sea.

Les-Sables-d’Olonne (40 minutes): the historic maritime town of Les-Sables-d’Olonne has the largest port in the VendĂ©e region and is the start and finish point of the "VendĂ©e Globe" - a non-stop yacht race around the world. With beautiful south-facing beaches and a variety of water sports to choose from, you can also visit several museums, such the Shell Museum, which houses more than 45,000 tropical shells... try walking down "rue de l’Enfer", the narrowest street in Europe, which is only 43cm wide... buy some delicious shellfish from the seafood market stalls... or treat yourself to lunch at one of the numerous restaurants.

La Rochelle (60 minutes): set in architecturally stunning surroundings, La Rochelle is an historic seaport with many ancient churches, elegant townhouses and two historic towers built at the entrance to the harbour. Although the town is a thousand years old, it has great shopping opportunities for fashion lovers! It’s definitely worth a day trip to admire the architecture, stroll around the shops and sit in the Parisian-style cafĂ©s to watch the world go by.

Ile-de-RĂ© (90 minutes): this scenic island is one of the jewels on the Atlantic coastline. A bridge connects the island to the mainland close to La Rochelle. Once on the island, cycle along the coastline marvelling at the whitewashed fishermen’s cottages, relax on the fine sandy beaches, or explore the ports, forests and salt marshes. Don’t forget to try the local seafood, which includes such delicacies as oysters, lobsters, shrimps, langoustines, coquille Saint-Jacques and red snapper.

Mervent Forest (60 minutes): with over 200kms of well-marked footpaths, cycle paths and horse riding trails, Mervent Forest is the largest forest in the Vendée and is a fantastic place to enjoy some tranquil time away from the busy seaside resorts. The various paths offer amazing panoramic views of the local countryside, lakes and rivers as you look out across a canopy of trees.

Golf (30-90 minutes): the area around the villas boasts five excellent golf courses. France is one of Europe’s most popular golfing holiday destinations. It has over 25 of the Top 100 golf courses in Europe - and many golfers are now choosing to play in France rather than the traditional Spanish golf resorts. French golf courses are of an exceptionally high standard, are competitive and are well managed.

About Us

My wife Donna (41) and I (42) and our 2 great kids, Daniel (13) and Emily (15) are a British family living on the south west coast of France running our own holiday company. We love to travel and enjoy lots of outdoor activities including biking, surfing, boating and fishing. Emily excels in most sports (specialising in horse riding) whist Daniel enjoys playing the guitar and is an excellent drummer (dont worry we wont be bringing those!) Living on the west coast of France, we are blessed with great weather and have loved the many cycle routes through vin yards, enchanting villages and chateaux trails to enjoying many family BBQ's with friends on the sandy beaches watching the sun set - of course, sublime wine comes as standard!!

We have spent 10 years building our business and now it is time for us to take some much needed ‘time out’ with our family trying to live life to the max. Our children have now lived in France longer than the UK (10yrs) so are now fluent in both languages. They are exceptionally well-behaved, courteous and respectful children with a love of life and always have a smile on their face (well nearly always!) We are an honest and respectful family looking for new and exciting places to visit (as a family) before the kids get too old and no longer want to come with mum and dad!

Having run our holiday company and let out own houses for approx. 30 weeks per year each villa (approx. 80 clients per week), we know from 1st hand experience (and hard work) what is expected when renting a family home and have an abundance of experience and testimonials regarding the cleanliness of our villas, how well maintained and looked after they are, which of course, is something we would ensure in your home too!

We do have a spare car here too, so can offer this to you if you would like to do an auto- exchange. BTW - we are non-smokers.

Many thanks for taking the time to read our advert and we hope you can visit this part of the world soon.....!
