Our Home

We offer a lovely self contained modern flat (studio apartment) in Vienna/Hietzing, one of the most exclusive districts of Vienna. This peaceful and upmarket suburb is ideally situated to explore Vienna (the famous Palace of Schönbrunn is practically next door!) and the surrounding treasures, e.g.the wine country of the Wachau.Situated among the private ambassadorial homes(among them the U.S. Ambassador's villa) it is one of the safest places in the world and is on the top of the list of the cities with highest standard of living.
We have been interviewed by the Austrian press for our very successful 50 exchanges during the last 10 years and got a very favourable covering in the newspaper. We have been honoured by Haustausch.com as counting among their favourite homeexchangers.
In the well proportioned living room of our studio there is one hide away double bed and a comfortable sofa-bed, an open plan kitchen with all gadgets like microwave oven, ice crusher etc. There is central heating or air condition, a brandnew flatscreen TV home cinema and DVD player and recorder as well as of course a CD and radio-player at your disposal, WLAN if you bring your own laptop, more internet access can be provided nextdoor at our home. From the front hall you enter a separate bathroom (bathtub with shower and brandnew washer dryer) and separate toilet. You have your own key and are completely independent.
The flat overlooks a spacious, quiet garden which is also used by our friendly neighbours.
We ourselves live next door and the flat is used by us to accommodate visiting friends. So no simultaneous exchange is necessary and the flat could also be rented out.
We will be there to help if you want to. We are experienced tour-guides and our greatest pleasure is to make new friends around the world and see the world from a different angle. We are extremely careful of your home and property!

Our Neighborhood

Vienna has been chosen as the first among 12 worldwide cities as being the most livable and lovable city in the world! Practically next door to our flat there is not only the Palace of Schoenbrunn, but you will also be hobnobbing with lots of residents who live in the villas around us that were originally built by the followers of the Austrian Emperors to be as near as possible to the "Royals" in their summer residence of the Palace of Schoenbrunn. In earlier times this part of Vienna was a wine growing region and there are still some idyllic new wine places (the famous Viennese "Heurigen") in quaint old vintners’ houses more or less next door. And if it is the time of the wine harvest and the "storm", the delicious first stage of the new wine, enjoy to drink it at the famous "Heurigen" amidst the flaming fall colours of the wine-leaves! Another "nextdoor" is the "Hermes Villa", Empress Elizabeth's hideaway from the palatial Spanish etiquette of the Imperial Palace and today sitting in the middle of a biosphere park with wild roaming deer and hogs (Vienna is the only European city that has a national park within its city precincts, and this is at your doorstep!)
Nowadays of course there is a bus on the doorstep that gets you to the metro/underground and within twenty minutes into the city centre.
About Vienna and its cultural and historical venues and its beauty at any time of the year nothing need to be said. It is as beautiful as all the songs and brochures say. There is music old and new, not only in the air but also in many of the theatres and concert halls of which the Golden Hall of the Musikverein and the State Opera (worldfamous not only for its opera ball, right now approaching!!) are not the only ones. In summer Vienna is brimming over with places where you can enjoy an elaborate meal (where once and still today emperors, queens and other celebrities used and use to dine) or simply enjoy the buzzing life of the Viennese and the many tourists from a "Schanigarten", one of the roadside places that spring up with the first warm rays of the sun right on the sidewalks.
In winter of course the atmosphere is tinged with romance at the many advent markets with their lovely and enticing perfume of winterspices and mulled wine, snowy huge Christmas trees and lovely arts and handicrafts that leave you with maybe more souvenirs to take home than you intended. You can dance away the old year on New Year's Eve at the famous "Emperor's Ball" at the Imperial Palace or, if you are not so royally inclined, in the streets of the City on the famous "Sylvester Path", Vienna's greatest open air ballroom in the world! And ice-skate in front of Vienna's city hall! Take part in elegant and fun balls in carneval!
If you want a break from the city the famous Vienna Woods are within walking distance from our house. The huge biosphere national park (unique in Europe within city boundaries) with roaming boars and deer and Empress Sissi's hideaway is minutes away from our house.Great for a walk inbetween sightseeing days!
Another option is a (boat)trip on the Danube through the famous Wachau with its beautiful Abbey of Melk, many romantic castles and villages and medieval towns along the Danube valley. The wine is justly famous all over the world. All this is within reach of half a day’s journey. This is also true for the south of Vienna with the famous wine growing regions of Gumpoldskirchen, the spa Baden and further on already the snowy mountains for energetic walkers and climbers, skiers and snowboarders, or just strollers.45 minutes away (either by car or special ski-package train with dinner and dancing on the way back) you find the most wonderful pistes for a day of skiing , toboganning, cross country skiing or just winter hiking on the Semmering, the "Magic Mountain" that once was the retreat of royals and the rich and powerful (still is!).
Should you be more inclined to water, there is the biggest inland lake of Europe, Lake Neusiedl, with its wonderful flora and fauna just an hour’s drive away, a paradise for the birdwatcher and the water loving sportsman alike (icesailing and skating in winter) with a first impression of the Hungarian Puszta and its hospitality and wines.

Budapest and Salzburg and the famous Austrian Lake District are a two or three hours’ drive. Bratislava is either a boat- or traintrip down the Danube.Throw in an overnight stay and you can visit Prague and Budapest, even Venice is easily reached from Vienna.

About Us

View Feedback About My Exchanges

We took early retirement from teaching (engeneering technology and foreign languages, also German as a foreign language) and now work freelance as educational advisors and consultants. Our daughter Stefanie is twenty-eight and a teacher of languages (after teaching at the University of Mexico City, UNAM, she has now returned home to teach at a "Gymnasium"). She occasionally travels with us or helps with "our" home exchangers as a reference person.
We have travelled widely (Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, America, Central and South America, Mexico, India and Europe), are very outgoing and can think of nothing nicer than to meet new people and make friends. We are experienced exchangers (our partners from England,Scotland,Ireland,Spain,France,Italy,Switzerland,Germany,Poland,Sweden,Hungary,U.S.A.,Canada,the Caribbean, South America,Africa,Australia, New Zealand can give recommendations) and have only had the best experiences so far. We have just been interviewed by the Austrian press for our very successful 50 exchanges (!) during the last 10 years and got a very favourable covering in the newspaper.
We would be happy to help you in any way with your sightseeing and with whatever you might need. And we are very experienced tour guides! Please read our feedbacks!!!!
We also offer Immersion German on a person to person basis for every conceivable purpose and length of time with your private apartment thrown in and your own personal and highly professional teacher. Ask us for details.
