The apartment is located at the French Concession (Chinese: 上海法租界; pinyin: Shànghǎi Fǎ Zūjiè, French: La concession française de Shanghai) was a foreign concession in Shanghai, China from 1849 until 1946, and it was progressively expanded in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The concession came to an end in practice in 1943 when the Vichy French government signed it over to the pro-Japanese puppet government in Nanking. The area covered by the former French Concession was, for much of the 20th century, the premier residential and retail districts of Shanghai, and was also the centre of Catholicism in Shanghai. Despite rampant re-development over the last few decades, the area retains a distinct character, and is a popular tourist destination. With its peaceful, picturesque, treetlined streets, this area retain an air of the "Paris of the East". At the same time, many of the small backstreets still have a very local feel.

It’s one of the most popular parts of town for expats, especially Hengshan Lu and the Fumin/Changle crossroads.
Xintiandi and Shanghai art street Tianzifang are also in French Concession. Walking around these two place, you can get an idea of traditional Shanghai lifestyle, as well as enjoy Shanghai traditional buildings.
In French Concession, Sun Yat-sen drew up plans for a modern unified China and Mao Zedong helped to found the Chinese Communist Party. At east side of Xintiandi, Xingye Lu, you can visit the site of the First National Congress of CPC.

The French Concession is also home to the best bars and restaurants of Shanghai.

We would like an exchange in December or early January in the San Francisco Bay Area. Places we are interested include, San Francisco, Napa, Sonoma and Lake Tahoe but we are open to all Bay Area locations. We are open to any destination in Asia during Sep 30 to Oct 7. We are open to non-simultaneous exchanges.

We would like to find a place in Indonesia, Japan or Malaysia but will be open to other places in Asia Pacific during September 29 to October 7, 2012.

We are also looking for a place in the San Francisco bay area - USA are during December 2012.

We are looking for a place to stay in exchange to our home in Shanghai. We will be visiting friends and family during our stay.

Jason & Ginna were recently married in Cartagena, Colombia in February 2010 and had been living in San Francisco for the past 13 years prior to accepting expatriate assignments to Shanghai, China in September 2011.
