Our Neighborhood
Boca Grande is an historic village (no stoplights here or are necessary!) located on Gasparilla Island which is one of a string of barrier islands on the Gulf Coast of Florida between Fort Myers and Tampa, Florida (2 hours from Tampa). Boca Grande is 1 hour from Sarasota which has many cultural institutions to explore such as the Ringling Museum, Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, in addition to many other "city" activities if you desire to leave the island. Sarasota is also the home of fabulous shopping on St. Armand's Key. On Boca Grande island, you have many choices for various ages- ranging from enjoying the white sand azure water Gulf of Mexico beach- well-known for beautiful shelling, bike-riding on the bike paths that were once railroad tracks, fishing- either in-shore, off-shore or tarpon fish in the Boca Grande Pass, shopping in the island's boutique stores, indulging in the island's restaurants or exploring the island and its lush landscaping in the home's golf cart which is provided (the island's preferred method of transportation). The island is seven miles long with Boca Grande historic lighthouse and Gasparilla Island State Park at its southern point which is a birder's paradise. The island is the second home of many from the northeast but is also a treasured home or second home of many local Floridians such as ourselves with an island community center with internet access and playgrounds, community tennis courts, island library, island churches and island grocery market and hardware store. The home has beach umbrellas, chairs, bikes, boogies boards, etc. available and there are also easy options to rent additonal equipment such as a kayak, paddleboard, etc., if desired. The home exchange includes the home's golf cart. It is easy to rent a second golf cart or rent or charter a boat or fishing guide. The island is accessible by car through a small toll-bridge.
