Our Home

Our home is over 100 years old but has been beautifully decorated and thoroughly equipped with all modern conveniences, creating a relaxing luxurious space, full of books and character yet scrupulously clean and totally comfortable. As my profession is Buyer for Homewares for Ireland's most prestigious department store chain, I have been fortunate to travel extensively, always learning about those touches which make a home truly comfortable; deep rich carpets, fine crystal chandeliers and a huge oversized shower in a lovely marble bathroom. Our house stands on the doorstep of the historic bustling centre of Dublin.A 15 minute stroll along the canal brings you to the fine shops, exceptional restaurants and great ' craic' (it means fun, Irish style!) of Dublin, home of James Joyce, Beckett and the friendliest people in the world. We love to cycle into town, wander in the beautiful St. Stephen's green park, a bite to eat and a play in the famous Abbey Theatre, then of course a pint of Guinness, the black stuff, in the heart and soul of Dublin life, the local pub.
We would be delighted for you to use our car, a comfortable Mercedes Estate to discover the stunning countryside, mountains and lakes in beautiful county Wicklow, called the Garden of Ireland. Just a 40 minute drive and you are in Glendalough, perhaps the most beautiful lake valley in Europe,or on Brittas bay, an unending golden sandy beach..If you prefer a day on the finest golf course, climbing the 'Suger Loaf' mountain or just a gentle family picnic in the grand Powerscourt Estate, jump in the car for a beautiful drive and you'll be there before your U2 cd is finished!
we love our country and we would be proud to have visitors experience the pleasures of the Land of a Thousand Welcomes, Ireland.

Our Neighborhood

Our neighbourhood is full of Victorian and Edwardian traditional red-brick houses. There are 6 open working fireplaces in our house if you like the glow of a real fire, but don't worry, we have lots of central heating too! Close to our house (3 minutes walk) is a beautiful park with a great playground for the little ones. We often cycle over to the Phoenix Park, one of Europe's biggest urban parks, which is wonderful in the summertime, with outdoor concerts, gardening events and the home of our President Higgins. Although we often go shopping in the city centre as it's so close, there is a great supermarket about 10 minutes walk away, and lots of quaint coffee shops and little boutiques all within walking distance.
Another Dublin weekend tradition is to take a stroll on Dun Laoghaire Pier, (about 25 minutes drive from our house). Its a fabulous walk, taking about an hour, and you'll see the beautiful sweep of Dublin bay,the mountains as a stunning backdrop and all the yachts bobbing up and down in the harbour. Joyce's tower, where James Joyce actually lived and where the first part of Ulysses is set, is right next door and houses a great museum overlooking the sea.

We would also consider a city break. We are flexible really, but after exchanging for the third time last Easter, ( Oslo- fantastic!)we really think its a great idea.

About Us

We are Chris and Lisa, with two children, Julienne aged 16 and Charlotte aged 5. Chris is a primary school teacher and I am a buyer for a retail group of stores. We love books, theatre, art galleries walks in the countryside, football (Chris) and strolling around beautiful shops (me)!
We love the sea too, and travelling to the rugged barren west coast of Ireland, usually Connemara , to get away from it all.
At the weekend, we love to stroll into town, visit bookshops, cafes and maybe go to a traditional pub with friends on a Saturday night. We love music too, and enjoy going to small gigs and concerts, everything from Jose Carreras to some unknown local band.
We both love history too,and feel that any visit to Dublin is incomplete without visiting Kilmainham Goal, the GPO and the Library at Trinity college, after which you will know all out our rich Irish history full of rebellions, uprisings and heroic tales of derring-do!
