Our Home

Our apartment is a sunny, relatively large studio, about 550 square feet, with a separate bathroom, storage area and New York kitchen with a granite pass-through to the dining area of the main room. It has a wall of windows with great views which makes it feel even larger. The furniture is multi-purpose and there is lots of room for clothing and storage. The couch is a European product designed for smaller spaces but very comfortable for sleeping, unlike many sofa beds sold in the US. The wings of the couch swing closed to form a double bed or can be left “as is” to serve as two twin beds. You can see this clearly in the pictures.

The building has a roof deck with chairs and tables and terrific views up and downtown. It's a great place to read, have dinner or a glass of wine and talk with friends. The sunsets are fantastic and it's awesome to watch the City light up as dusk and then evening set in.

The kitchen is fully equipped with all modern appliances. The apartment has a 50-inch large screen plasma TV/DVD, a BOSE radio & CD player, air conditioning/heat, high speed internet (wifi) and a great view from the apartment's wall of windows. There is also a laundry room in the building.

The apartment is filled with Mexican folk art, including prints of pre-colonial artifacts, paintings by Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, and colorful contemporary sculpture and carved animals.

Our Neighborhood

Our apartment is in the West Village section of Greenwich Village, a charming, safe, historic and much sought after, residential neighborhood with virtually no hotels or short term rentals. It is located on subway, bus and train routes to all parts of Manhattan, other City boroughs and New Jersey. It's centrally located and is convenient to Soho, TriBeca, Chinatown, Little Italy, the Lower East Side, Chelsea, Midtown (Herald and Times Squares & Theatre District), Lincoln Center, Bryant & Central Parks, Museum Mile and virtually all City attractions.

Our immediate neighborhood has scads of great restaurants, gourmet grocery stores, gyms, theater and indie movie houses, live music clubs, book stores, and just about anything you could want – most of which can be delivered right to you or the doorman at our building. The building has a roof deck with chairs and tables and terrific views up and downtown. It's also quite close to the Hudson River Park - which has a great running and bike path (that goes the entire length of Manhattan - bikers love this) as well as grassy piers out into the Hudson. The sunsets are great from both the River and roof deck. Washington Square Park is also blocks away.

Our Destinations

Otherwise booked for the year, we are interested in a one week trip in July with our daughter, partner & 2 preschoolers (5 & 3 1/2 years old) to a beach community in Southern California. The kids are well behaved and carefully supervised. We've never had a problem including them in our trips. We've exchanged in San Diego and Orange counties -- both have worked well. Santa Barbara is also a possibility.

We like to go to Hawaii during the winter and are very flexible on dates.

We are flexible and can travel almost anytime, anywhere. We have a second home in Sausalito,15 minutes from San Francisco, so we can do non-simultaneous exchanges. See Listing 55507.

About Us

We are a retired professional couple open to traveling to most any interesting location. We spent most of our professional lives in Washington, DC but are native New Yorkers.

We have a very special second home in the San Francisco Bay area (Sausalito) -- a floating home surrounded by water, mountains, marinas, great restaurants and beaches -- about 5 minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge and close to Marin and Napa county attractions. This home is also available for an exchange and makes it relatively easy to arrange non-simultaneous exchanges. See #55507.

Prior to retiring, Jim worked for many years as a health care researcher in his own business and as part of a research institute. Eve worked in the US Senate for 20 years and managed several statewide political campaigns. After leaving the Senate she's lectured, been an adjunct professor of political science and consulted overseas for USAID.

We have a 40 year old daughter who resides in Oakland and she and her family, including 2 preschoolers, occasionally visit with us when we do home exchanges.
