We are a retired couple living in a lovely 1 bedroom condo apartment on a high floor in the best location directly on the boardwalk and the beach in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Our building is the historic and elegant Ritz Carlton (now known, simply, as The Ritz), which is featured in the HBO production Boardwalk Empire. A brief walk in one direction takes you past the casinos, where things are quieter. In the other direction it is a 30 to 40 minute stroll to the farthest casino. We own this unit. It is very quiet and private, wonderfully sunny with a southwestern exposure and large windows, 10 foot ceilings, unobstructed views overlooking the beach and ocean following the curve of the shoreline---we can see all the way to Ocean City and the South Jersey beach towns beyond. There is a king size bed, 2 TV's (one is a new 42" LG), stereo, VCR, DVD, WI-FI, cassette player, walk-in closet, new carpeting, kitchen, new dining table and chairs, 3 unit sectional sofa, library, and more. Our building is on the boardwalk and across the street from one of the casinos. We have a new swimming pool, fitness center, lounge, ballroom, sunning decks, pool and ping pong tables, etc.

Make yourself at home!

The boardwalk in Atlantic City is the best, widest and longest in the world. If you have never been to Atlantic City you will be amazed---the boardwalk is miles in length and a primary reason why we are here. We walk directly onto the boardwalk with the beach and ocean and sea air and sea gulls and the enormous sky before us. We never tire of it. Riding a bicycle on the boardwalk ( bike rentals are across the street) with the beach and ocean to your side and, at the right time, the rolling surf beneath you, is absolutely refreshing and restorative.

There are over 100 restaurants within walking distance, from pizza and hamburgers to the finest cuisine. One of these restaurants, a block away, is considered by some to be among the best Italian restaurants in the country. If you want to go there, let us know: reservations are not easy to come by. The casinos of course have all you would expect beyond gambling: headline entertainers, a variety of shows, lounges, nightclubs, comedy clubs, theaters (even an Imax), restaurants, shopping, beach bars with entertainment, music, dancing, and more. Outside the casinos the choices are many, from all of the other boardwalk attractions, entertainments, amusements and piers extending out over the ocean, to a newly developed shopping center with many factory outlets and other stores and restaurants (including an excellent bar/restaurant that brews its own beer.) A short ride away are other shore towns up and down the coast; across the bay is the town of Brigantine with its magnificent wild beach; also close by is a federally protected fish, bird and wildlife refuge. Let us not fail to mention, of course, that our area has some of the best bay and ocean crabbing and fishing anywhere.

The map location as indicated, by the way, is inaccurate. Our building is on the boardwalk at Iowa avenue (near Texas and California). We are across the street from the Tropicana Casino. Roll out of bed, have breakfast, walk across the street, and---Powww! [ In our apartment, however, it is very quiet and very private. Best of both worlds.]

Local transportation is easy. Jitney buses go all over the island, including the casinos in the Marina district. There are always taxicabs waiting outside our building. If you are a golf enthusiast, our region is known for its many fine courses.

Some of the boardwalk photographs above, by the way, were taken at the end of November; by this time, the outdoor boardwalk restaurants, cafes and beer gardens, entertainers, parades, full panoply and color have mostly come in for the winter.

The immense and spectacular Revel Casino and Resort -- at 6.2 million square feet it is one of the largest casinos in the country -- opened this spring.
