Our downstairs room which includes a bathroom & toilet is available for short term stay for people passing through.

We do have a 8 year old Blue Heeler dog (Kildaa) that is very friendly & low maintanace. She has already won the hearts of all the people who have exchanged with us. A good watch dog & very good with children. Unfortunately she does not get on with other dogs. Our grandchildren play with her & she even lets them dress her up. Alternative arrangements with friends & family can be made when you plan to be away.

Smoking is OK on the balcony.

We have 2 vehicles available. The 4 wheel drive as shown in photo as well as a smaller Toyota Corolla car which some people prefer as it is smaller & a lot easier to get around in.

• Darwin is the capital city of the Northern Territory.
• Wagaman (Leanyer) is located approx 20 minutes from the city centre.
• Darwin is very tropical and has a very casual lifestyle which is a totally different experience from the southern states of Australia.
• Darwin is very multicultural which results in regular markets during the day & at night. Beautiful foods from all over the world are available.
• 5 minutes from home are: -
o Large fully air-conditioned shopping centres
o Olympic size swimming pool
o Lake Leanyer recreational pool with water slides, playground & shaded grass areas ideal for picnics & only 5 minutes by car or 10 minutes by bike. Great for kids & those young at heart plus is available at no cost.
o Beautiful sandy beach which are great for walks & picnics. Swimming is OK between April and October after which the box jelly fish arrive.
o Beautiful cliffs overlooking the beach which are a great venue for spending evenings watching the sunset over the Arafura Sea, enjoying the beautiful sea breeze as well as cool drink if you so desire.
o 3 hours by road from the world renowned Kakadu National Park. Close to some amazing national parks & camping areas.
• Darwin is only 2½ hours by plane to Bali & 4 hours to Singapore if you want to do a stop over on the way to or from Darwin.

Darwin has 2 seasons: -
• Dry Season - April to September – temperature ranges between 18C – 30C. No rain & very popular for tourists who want to get away from the cold Southern states. People are concerned that they can't handle the heat but the climate during the dry season is the same as Hawaii, some people say better
• Wet Season – October to March – temperature ranges between 22C – 35C. Early in the wet can be very humid without any rain. From December we can experience huge thunderstorms when you will experience some of the best electrical display you will ever see. We can have up to 100 mm of rain a day but Darwin has been designed so that the drainage is very good & after 30 minutes there will be little or no evidence of any water laying around. Darwin definately does not have water restrictions.
A friend of ours exchanged their Darwin house with an experienced house exchange people & their comment was that Darwin is one of the best kept secrets in Australia. When Lyndon was asked to transfer with work from Adelaide to Darwin for 6 months he did so reluctantly as why would anybody want to live in Darwin. That was 30 years ago.
We have just purchased a 16' pop up caravan which will be available to travel around the NT & WA. Will put photos on site as soon as we take delivery.

We will travel anytime & hot or cold weather is of no concern.

We are very flexible in where we travel. We would prefer to keep away from the larger cities but we are very flexible.

The above preference is only a suggestions on where we would like to visit but we are open to any suggestions.

We have just experienced 4 great weeks in Belgium & 1 week in the Netherlands which has given us the taste for exchanges. We would love to see more of the Netherlands as what we saw we fell in love with.

Surprise us. It is now time to travel & explore.

We are very keen for any exchanges in Cairns as the grandchildren have moved there.

Lyndon & Vicki have retired from fulltime employment & are looking forward to travelling. Our favourite holiday destination over the years has been Bali (only 2.5 hours by air) but now is the time for us to see more of the world. We have visited England, Scotland, Ireland & Switzland & really enjoyed our time even though we were on a tight schedule. We would love to stay as residents rather than tourists.
Lyndon has been a manager in the aluminium window & glass industry & Vicki was a teacher in charge of a preschool before transferring into the HR department for the NT Government. Currently Lyndon is driving school buses & Vicki has returned her old department doing contract work. We are both very active & play competive sport on a regular basis.
