We have neighborhood parties all summer long. There are more than a dozen children between 2 months old to 18 years old within the dozen or so houses in our dual cul-de-sac neighborhood. This is a picture of our neighbor\'s house directly across the street.
Our family room adjoins the kitchen and has a big screen tv with DVD and 6 CD stereo system. This picture was taken from the kitchen.

The Neighborhood
The community is immediately adjacent to an extensive wildlife area (The Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve) known throughout California for mountain biking and hiking. Less than 20 minutes away is the new LegoLand, and we are 90 minutes south of Disneyland. Mexico is 30 minutes south of us. We are biking distance from a beautiful Pacific Athletic Club that you could pay for by the week while you are here. The Destination
We love new destinations and adventures! We love trips to islands or coastal areas (we love snorkeling and sailing) or beautiful rural areas and historical locations. In our travels we most enjoy taking the time to get to know a small region; shopping for groceries at local shops; eating local cheeses, breads, wines and sampling local cuisine. Getting to know the people.
We are a blended family of six (Jeff, Tina, Taylor, Kelsey, Kailyn, and Michael). It is not clear that all of us will make an exchange as our kids are old enough that they are sometimes off on their own traveling adventures! I am 54 yrs old. I own and run several biotechnology companies. Tina (38) is a clinical scientist. She and her son, Michael (12) recently joined our family. My son Taylor is 19 and a freshman at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. My two daughters, Kelsey (17) and Kailyn (15) enjoy swimming, surfing, and boogieboarding in the ocean, sailing, skiing, and playing tennis. All of our kids are proficient in French and are taking tennis lessons. Kelsey is on her high school tennis team, and Taylor sails on his school's sailing team. We all love sailing, diving, and skiing and have traveled quite extensively. The kids are now seasoned travelers (they have now visited about 20 different countries) and help with meals and navigation! I am certainly fortunate that they enjoy traveling.
The summer of 2000 we swapped houses, cars (and dogs) for the month of July with a family from Celony, just outside Aix-en-Provence. We explored Provence, saw a stage of the Tour d'France, spent some time exploring Paris (e. g. , Musee d'Orsay, the Louvre) , and explored the Cote d'Azur from Cassis to the Italian border. The kids swam in the Mediterranean and learned to sail a sailing dingy off the beaches of Cannes.
During the summer of 2001 we spent a week backpacking between the High Sierra Camps in Yosemite National Park in California (A ~55 mile circle at elevations from 6,000 to almost 11,000 feet). The kids also took part in the 3 week Junior Lifeguard program at the beach and we enjoyed tennis and sailing camps locally.
The summer of 2002 we exchanged houses with a family from Nasby Park, just northeast of Stockholm, Sweden. We drove down to Copenhagen, spent weeks exploring Stockholm and the surrounding area, and did a 4 day cruise from Helsinki to St Petersburg, which was coupled with visits to the Hermitage Museum and the St Paul and Peter's fortress.
The summer of 2003 we enjoyed a short trip to Lyon and Annecy, but spent the majority of the summer with the kids enjoying tennis, Junior Lifeguard and surfing camps here in San Diego.
The summer of 2004 we exchanged homes for almost five weeks with a family of five from Austria. We are visited Munich, Salzburg, and Vienna, and visited the Czech Republic for the first time. Prague was beautiful and interesting! We had a great time, and our home-exchange friends got engaged while they were living in our house!! They are now married :)
The summer of 2006 we did a six-week homeexchange with a beautiful family of 5 from Cassis, in Provence, France. This was a fantastic return to the area of our first homeexchange. Both our families had fantastic summers!
The summer of 2007, we traveled to Hong Kong for a week and a half, and among other things, had a great time at Ocean Park! We then moved on to Indonesia, starting in Jakarta and eventually ending up in Bali. We had a wonderful time, from the beaches of Bali to the monkeys in the monkey forest in Ubud!
In August 2008 we had a fabulous home-exchange with first time exchangers in Mill Valley, California. Their home is listing 92812. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in their delightful home and we became fast friends. The children, though young, were wonderful and respectful guests in our home, which was absolutely immaculate upon our return. We hope to return to their home when we have the chance, as their spacious, naturally sunlit home has beautiful views and is in a fantastic location to take full advantage of both Marin and San Francisco sights and activities. We will certainly stay in touch with this beautiful family.
The summer of 2009 we stayed around our home in San Diego, as lovely Tina and her son were first joining us from Indiana.
We are looking forward to planning our vacation for the summer of 2010!
