Our Home
We live in a substantial family home standing in landscaped gardens with lovely outlook and direct access to the footpath of a tidal creek and nature reserve at the edge of a friendly village on the northern edge of the city of Plymouth in Devon. Our home is very light, comfortable and furnished in a modern style. There is a piano. The spacious living room leads to a large conservatory which in turn leads on to a large south facing terrace and the garden. The patio area affords much privacy and enjoys the sun from early in the morning until into the evening. There are 5 bedrooms (3 en suite) and a further bed/sitting room upstairs and 2 family bathroom/shower rooms.
We are here on google maps http://tinyurl.com/m46nel
We also have a villa in Lanzarote, Canary Islands if that is of interest - photos here http://tinyurl.com/villa-fiorina
Due to recent regulations in the UK its very difficult to insure our cars for overseas visitors sorry.

Our Neighborhood
Our home is in a village with a church, school, post office, shop and 3 character pubs. It’s in the side of a valley and has a rural outlook. Plymouth city (www.plymouth.gov.uk) is 5 miles away and there is a bus about every hour. Plymouth is a large natural harbor and from here the Pilgrim Fathers left for America in 1620. In 1588 Sir Francis Drake played bowls on Plymouth Hoe as the Spanish Armada approached. Plymouth Hoe is now an open grassed area overlooking sea and dominated by Smeaton's iconic lighthouse dating from 1759. Plymouth is a significant naval dockyard and played an important role in World War 2. On D Day many UK and 36,000 USA forces left for Utah and Ohama beaches from the City. Boat trips leave the foreshore in the city regularly. As with any modern city there is a wealth of restaurants, cinemas, bowling alley, a theatre and so on. The national aquarium is here and there are several National Trust stately homes are within easy reach including the home of Sir Francis Drake about 4 miles north. Much of the countryside of Devon has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty The coastline of Devon and Cornwall consists of sandy beaches, towering cliffs and secluded coves. In the autumn, winter and spring the storms can be awesome! The historical fishing ports of Kingsbridge, Dartmouth and Salcombe are a short drive away as well as other small market towns such as Tavistock and Totnes with art galleries and excellent individual shops. The unique wilderness area of Dartmoor is also nearby.
For those who wish to explore further we are within 1 hour from Exeter and the Eden Project (see http://www.edenprojectincornwall.co.uk/). We are about 2 hours from Stonehenge and the City of Bath. Of course, when you've finished exploring, there is nothing better than to reward yourself with a traditional Devonshire cream tea!
Plymouth also has regular ferry crossings most days to France (Roscoff) and Spain (Santander) see http://www.brittanyferries.com/

About Us
Our names are Nic and Jean. Nic is a professional engineer and a retired Naval Commander now working part time. Jean retired from a senior government post 5 years ago. We have a daughter in London, another who lives in our village with our grandchildren, and our youngest daughter is a nurse in the major hospital nearby. We love our home and would care for yours as carefully as we care for ours. This is a no-smoking house. We have an elderly, peaceful and very affectionate cat to welcome you! For leisure we love walking, travelling, good food, and our second home in the Canary Islands. Jean is learning Spanish and Nic is a keen motorcyclist.
