We are looking for a long term exchange with the United States: we would like to spend the school year 2010-11 in the Washington DC area. We are flexible about the location, but we look for something not far from Washington and outstanding public schools would be a must. If one year is too long for your plans, we could consider a shorter period and renting for the remaining part of the year.
In the meanwhile, we are planning to spend Easter vacation in Europe. Paris would be our first choice, but we are open to your proposal. Barcelona is a pleasure in spring.

The Home
We would like to spend the school year 2010-11 in the US. Our first choices are Washington DC, Fairfax county and Montgomery county. Excelent public school in the neighborhood is a must.

In the top floor of an award winning building in the Barcelona beachfront, with impressive views to the Mediterranean Sea and always full of light. Our building has only twelve tenants, but we are part of an island that has a large private park for the children to play.
We have a large sitting and dinner room, with huge windows looking a the sea, one master bedroom with private bathroom, two children bedrooms (one with bunk beds and the other with futons) that share one bathroom, and one extra bedroom with a separate bathroom for one person. A fully equipped studio with two desktops and high speed wifi all over the house is available.

The Neighborhood
We live in the Olympic Village that was build for the 1992 Olympic Games. It is a new area with all facilities (shops, cinemas in original version, restaurants...) and with the most modern city infrastructure (fiber optics, centralized pneumatic garbage collection, full accessibility for handicapped...). And we are only at 20min walk to the Gothic Quarter: the Picasso Museum, the Cathedral, and the nearest Starbucks!
The beach is 100m from our doorstep; there we have beach bars, restaurants and a marina. The beach is constantly cared and watched and you can swim anytime.
The whole area is very safe, children friendly and quite international with many English speaking neighbours. It is a paradise for skaters, and if you want we can leave you our rollerskates. We also have a health club with paddle and indoor pool at 3 min walk.

Our place is ideal for somebody that wants to use Barcelona as a base for enjoying the city, but also to make short daytrips to the coves of the Costa Brava, to the vineyards of Penedes, or even the Pyrenees Mountains for a day hike.
We can leave you our car, a Fiat Multipla that accommodates 6 adults (it’s fully insured, so do not worry about scratching it), so you can make short trips, as well as our bicycles for touring around the city.

The People
We are an Italian-Catalan family with four young children: Giulia is 13 and is a fan of synchronized swimming, Leo is 11 and he wants to be a Supreme Court judge, Frederic is 7 and wants to be the policeman that brings the bad guys to his brother, and Benet is 3 and we cannot really understand what he wants to be. Stefania, the Italian “mamma”, has gone back to university, to study what she really likes, Humanities, and not the things she learned as an MBA in her previous life. Instead, Emiliano, the Catalan “papa”, has been doing the same thing for 20 years, since he left Harvard, working with business clusters to make them more competitive.
