Our Neighborhood

The Faubourg Marigny (or Marigny) is arguably the hippest neighborhood in the Crescent City. Recently featured in Food and Wine magazine for its bars, nightlife, and restaurants and renowned for its creole architecture and history. Only 6 block walk to the French Quarter or Frenchmen Street entertainment district. For more history of the Marigny, visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faubourg_Marigny

The Marigny was designated a national historic district back in the 1970s to preserve the neighborhood's character and charm. Frenchmen Street is the Marigny's main attraction featuring tons of local music and serving some of the city's best food.

If you like ethnic cultural food, the Marigny is perfect. We have 2-Thai, 1-Mexican, 1-Lebanese, 3-Spanish Tapas, 1-soulfood, 1-italian, 1-creole, 2-Japanese, 1-Indian and 1-pub type restaurants. There are also a number of artist galleries throughout the neighborhood. The Marigny is also home to the New Orleans Food Co-op which features locally grown and organic foods.

Very convenient access to other parts of New Orleans including the Garden District, CBD, Warehouse district.

NEWS: Marigny has just been named one of the top ten neighborhoods in the US by the American Planning Association. Here is the link: www.planning.org/greatplaces.

NEWS: In the latest survey of America's Favorite Cities, New Orleans was tops in 10 categories. New Orleans swept the magazine's nightlife categories, besting cities including New York and Los Angeles as the top city for cocktail hour, live music and the singles and bar scene. New Orleans was also the magazine's readers' top pick for a wild weekend, boutique hotels, antique and vintage shops, cafes, neighborhood dining, people watching and spring break.

Our Dates

We would be interested in 1-2 longer swaps and 2 weekend swaps per year... Usually looking for International exchanges during New Orleans Jazz Festival.

While a lot of locals flee New Orleans during Mardi Gras, Christmas, Halloween, we usually stay in the city so, in most cases, would not be able to accommodate exchanges during that time.

Due to work schedules, the maximum exchange that we can consider at this time is 2-3 weeks.

Our Destinations

Open to most Cities with good transit and train options. Good Food, Nightlife are also important in a destination.

Unfortunately, Suburban or Beach homes usually do not fit with our travel style.

In the US, can accomodate long weekends with shorter notice. Interested in visiting NY, SF, Chicago, DC, Seattle, Portland, Boston, or other big cities
